Mackerel The Cat

Mackerel The Cat

 Dublin, Leinster, IRL
BandAlternativeFolk

Sinister folk and gentle shanties drawn from stories and dreams, and sicked up onto keys and strings.

Biography

Mackerel the Cat

Began in early January of this year. Since then they have played in The Bernard Shaw, Whelans and The Sugar Club. We have also done interviews and performed a track for Balcony TV and a Ruby Session upstairs in Doyles.

The name for the project comes from a book by the Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami called The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.

The instrumentation used by the group is wide ranging and includes: piano, guitar, double bass, drums, glockenspiel, melodica, meditation bells, static(via detuned radios) and cello.

Two of the musicians who play with the group studied jazz performance at Newpark Music Centre, and the other two are currently studying contemporary classical composition in Trinity College.
