Bio

Born in December 1987, Mackoo is a talented producer, songwriter, and emcee hailing from Birmingham. His farther was the pastor of a local church, where Mackoo learned a lot about music and composition singing on the choir. Always a fan of Hip-Hop, he was first exposed to the style at a very early age by his older brother, who was a well-known emcee around his neighbourhood. At the age of 8 he began to beat box for his brother and his friends on tapes while they freestyled and soon began to join in rapping with them.
At the age of 11 Mackoo and his family moved from Birmingham to Southampton where he spent much of his teenage years.
The pace of life was much slower in Southampton, which allowed Mackoo to focus on his interests which where music and art.
Not satisfied with the standards of Hip-Hop, he would critically analyse music the same way that he would do a painting or a piece of design. This gave him an edge that would allow him to see the faults in his own style and remedy them, taking elements from reggae, rock, and blues, then putting them into his own sound.
Mackoo’s older brother, who was running his own independent record label in Birmingham, saw that he was very eager to learn so equipped him with some recording software for his family PC and a basic understanding of using it. Mackoo would go on to experiment and develop, producing his own tracks and recording them by himself at home. He soon gained recognition from a Grime Garage crew called T.M.D. and began producing & recording with them for about one year until Mackoo and his family moved back to Birmingham.
After signing to Goldmind in 2006 Mackoo, joined up with some of the top musicians within the midlands to form, Mackoo - The Band. With heavy rotation and radio airplay, the band has performed across the UK with a strong following.
