"Todd Hancock, CFOX"

"Macula first entered my musical radar at the start of 2008 ... and have consistently impressed me with their tenacity, hard work and catchy rock songs. These guys pack rooms in Vancouver and I'd bet money they will be making an impact across Canada in the years to come."

Bio

MACULA is a high energy progressive funk metal band, tight knit and hard working. This very dedicated 4-piece has been referred to as “the energizer bunny of progressive metal”. Formed in 2006 this eclectic quartet - with a veritable grab bag of influences - has since tenaciously risen through the ranks to become one of the “must see” bands of Vancouver. With a powerful and dynamic presence they easily take command of a crowd and deliver more an experience than just a performance.

The band’s first EP, "Coup D'état" (released January 2009) contains 7 hard edged and intense tracks with a funky feel and punk-ish undertones. This disc received some radio play on 99.3 The FOX FM and was followed by a successful Western Canadian tour. Ten months later came the release of Macula’s second EP "Pride and Panic". Written and recorded in the spring and summer of 2009, much wilder and more unfettered than the first EP, it truly displays an advance in the writing and a strong development of their style. Touching on subjects ranging from political to nonsensical and everything in between while maintaining their groove. MACULA has come a long way in such a short time. The 10 tracks of Pride and Panic were recorded with Clayton Creed at EarArt Studios and released November 27th, 2009. Since then it has been played on 107.9 Evolution, CFUN 92.1 and University Radio.

MACULA has spent most of 2010 touring Canada and promoting the two EP's, hitting every province from British Columbia to Nova Scotia with an extended residency in the Toronto area.

After arriving back in Vancouver in October the boys have been hard at work writing new material for their much anticipated full length album being recorded in the Fall of 2011 and scheduled to be released shortly thereafter.

Macula will be back on the road again this summer for another 2 month cross Canada tour and will be making short trips all over the West until then. So keep an eye out for this tenacious and thoroughly entertaining crew because it's one show you won't want to miss.
