"Madam Weez"

“I had read about Madam Weez but was unprepared for the depth and range of her vocals. When I heard her sing a song from Linda Ronstadt, I melted and literally stopped a light conversation so I could hear and feel every word. She then mesmerized me with one of her original songs, a well crafted song cleverly written and performed perfectly in tune, running up and down the scale. And then a classic song by Firefall where she shared her talents on the 12 string guitar that was both beautiful and captivating. Then came a Stevie Nicks song, hard to cover, but she nailed it. At that moment, i put down my drink and was immersed in her performance.

We have become great friends over the years and I'll tell you, she delivers every single performance and gains new fans along the way. There are a lot of so-so musicians playing around, but when you hear a singer really sing, it changes you for the better. Highly recommended from coast to coast, you are not taking a chance by booking or knowing her. My whole life is about music and I know good music. I am proud to know Madam Weez.” - Jerry Ross, Radio host/DJ-WSLR RADIO-BLUES COUNTRY RADIO SHOW. Sarasota, Florida Blues Festival Fou

"Madam Weez"

“Madam Weez! She lives in a big house with lots of cats and dogs. Nope, not a voodoo princess in a New Orleans Parish, just a bad-ass Blues Momma still chasin' the blues in Y-town My-town. She is doing it all, and for real. She writes, she sings, and she plays a gritty blues guitar. She mounts any stage with the confidence born from knowing exactly who she is, what she is doing, and where she has been. Blues mavens need to be prepared for the real deal. Currently working on a new CD, Madam plans to record in the gentler climes of FLA later this year. I will be looking forward to posting some of her music when it becomes available. I just got The Madam's picture for these pages; She sure dresses up the site!!!” - Blues Cat Music 2010 Roger Hatfield Producer/Musician, www.nowbehere.com

Most people think of the weekends as a prime time for live music. But the Irish like to do things a little different -- especially if there's beer involved. Ann O'Malley's, a favorite local Irish deli and pub, hosts an Open Mic Night on Tuesdays and an Up and Comers Night on Wednesdays.

The two nights go hand in hand. Everyone is invited to Tuesday nights' Open Mic Nights from 6 p.m. to close. Owners John and Sherri Cunningham have been holding the talent search for about a year, offering little-known (or unknown) artists a chance to show off their stuff. From bagpipes to bass players, the intimate venue has seen its fair share of musicians.

"One person will get up and play a few songs, and then they'll sit down and a few more guys will join and jam," John said. (The "first beer is free for performers," he added, and $2 PBRs probably don't hurt.)

Tuesday night is a great way for locals and out-of-towners to have their music heard and possibly get a paying gig on Wednesday (as long as you can hold a room by yourself for four hours!). In mid-January, Ann O'Malley's re-started Up and Comers Night, hosted by Smokin' Joe, a.k.a. Joe Schauer.

"He's got an incredible personality, he's outgoing and he's pretty well-connected in the local music community," John said. "He brings great people in. We've had a lively and eclectic lineup."

The deli and pub is looking for fun, upbeat and engaging artists, with extra points awarded for Irish tunes and Dave Matthews covers. So far, Wednesday night has seen musicians like Billy Buchanan, acoustic songstress Chelsea Saddler, and the Celtic/Irish stylings of Dublin Train Wreck. DTW, consisting of Brian McCann and Bob Buckley, got their start at Open Mic Night. Buckley said of the experience, "We enjoy open mic because of the diversity of musicians and genres. I've heard some very talented artists and enjoy just hanging out and engaging in conversation."

Up and Comers Night schedule (from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.):

Feb. 17 -- Kaylee Rose

Feb. 24 -- Wesley Ochs

March 3 -- Storytellers

March 10 -- Madam Weez

March 24 -- Rick Hood & Don

March 31 -- Lee McCoy

Ann O'Malley's is at 23 Orange St. Call 825-4040 or go to annomalleys.com for information.

"Madam Weez"

"Madam Weez sets the stage at her club performances with a crystal ball and other mystic apparati, which may account for her ability to channel the vocal powers of Stevie Nicks, Pat Benetar, Janis Joplin, Sheryl Crow, Patsy Cline, and other blues and rock greats. She's at her best, however, when she's just Weez performing her own enjoyable, well-crafted songs." - Steve “The Professor” Putt~~www.mvlivemusic.com~~Mahoning Valley Live Music.

Bio

Madam Weez

Louise Damstoft-Hathaway

Singer/Songwriter/12 string guitarist/Recording Artist

For over 30 years, Madam Weez has brought magic to her music with a natural sensitivity that captivates and transcends her audience. Born in the same Home Town as Dave Grohl, Tommy McCoy and many others (Warren, OH), which is steeped in the rich musical roots of Ohio's undeniable contribution to musical history, Madam Weez continues the tradition with her original songwriting, unique presence and pedigree of musical accolades.

Her current recording project “Mystic Blues” culminates the years of personal struggle and strife combined with the soul of her song and spirit of her musical energy. The contrast of her stark lyrics and brazen vocal prowess against her eloquent 12 string guitar mastery, conveys the reality of the blues dues she has paid. Madam Weez has recently joined the ranks of “Blues Diva” by opening for Ana Popovic, co-writing with the founder of the Tampa Bay & Sarasota Blues Festivals Jerry Ross and working with International Blues Recording Artist Tommy McCoy while remaining true to her roots of Rock-Country-Pop & Contemporary.

Madam Weez performs regionally in the NE Ohio area and has been migrating to Florida with regular touring between Ohio and Florida. The 2008-09 “Snowbird Tour” brought Madam Weez to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she met and performed with veteran Bluesman Tommy McCoy. They formed a musical bond when realizing they were both from the same hometown of Warren, Ohio. The two have since worked together in concert and McCoy has contributed to her “Mystic Blues” CD. They perform one of McCoy's original duets “Never Shoulda Listened” and her originals are published by McCoy's company.

Her altruistic endeavors have earned her a place in the hearts of many who appreciate the dedicated work she has donated towards Breast Cancer Patient care at Ireland Cancer Center at Trumbull Memorial Hospital by assisting Tommy McCoy with their Annual Breast Cancer Benefit Concert (Barbeque/ Musicians Reunion) at Up A Creek in Howland, Ohio which happens every Labor Day Weekend (Sunday). It is an all day event and proceeds benefit the “Vicki McCoy Comfort Fund” in honor of McCoy's late wife who died of Breast Cancer in 1997. In 2009 they raised over $3000 for the First Annual Benefit and in 2010 they raised over $6000 for the Second Annual Benefit with appearances on local Radio & TV. The area is already 'buzzing' about 2011's benefit since it is a nostalgic event where many reunions of popular musicians and friends take place as well as new music/musicians joining in this great cause.

Madam Weez's 2011 “Snowbird Tour” will be February 10th-April3rd with shows from North Carolina to Florida promoting Her new CD “Mystic Blues” which is scheduled to be released by Christmas 2010. Her first 3-song CD “Reflection” has already been released and has been well received by her audience. Madam Weez is available on many internet sites and has established an impressive on-line International fan base, through her various website profiles.
