"Alan Thompson"

Thankfully there is never a shortage of quality new singer songwriters on the Welsh music scene, and to be honest I now expect that. But when I first heard Maddie Jones I was genuinely taken aback. Her voice is powerful and strong, she plays guitar like a cross between Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell and her songs have depth, great melody and a lyrical chomp that when it bites, you will feel until the middle of next week. If this girl isn't destined for mass adulation I'll eat my parka - BBC Radio Wales

"Dirty Little Secret Review"

Not at all what I was expecting, but I'm not sure now what I expecting from Maddie. What I got was a VERY polished performance, a nice spine tingling vocal style and, the highlight for me, an incredible arrangement of an excellent song. All of which, I might add, will make you work for your money to take it all in and that's good because this is most definitely a track you will grow into.

Most of the credit for that has to go to Maddie's songwriting talent, although it has to be said that the band are no slouches either. The backing track they supply is tasteful without being ornate, and perfectly fits the style and delivery of the song. It is the content and texture of the song that got to me though, and that doesn't happen often enough. The main reason you will have to give this track some time is because it's an intelligent song, full of nuance and detail that only surfaces over time (like the little echo overhang on the vocals for example, a lovely touch), as well as being musically adventurous in a way I found very refreshing. Definitely worth checking out.

Highly Recommended intelligent rock. - Steve Gilmore RebelRiffs

"Green and Blue Review"

I knew from the opening chords that this was going to be a bit special and that impression has grown with every playing. See, Maddie is a live, gigging musician and what I expected to hear was what she sounded like live - and this is it and its just gorgeous.

It takes a very great deal to make an impact with a guitar, a voice and a song. You got to be pretty good (and talented) to be able to pull it off successfully. OK, having said that, go and take a listen to this track and you tell me whether Maddie does that or not because I'm convinced. Listen, this is the kind of voice that sends shivers down your spine, what is not to like? Much more to the point, she's a very decent guitarist too, accompanying herself admirably. There is a video of the song here at a festival somewhere with stand up bass accompaniment that suits it just as well. For quality though, listen to the track on either of her sites and hear a budding diva in action. Beautiful.

MUST HAVE Acoustic song. - Steve Gilmore - RebelRiffs

"Let It Out EP Review"

The opening track to Maddie Jones’ Let it Out EP is almost a folky sound; softly twanging guitars and romantic lyrics, belied by the more sultry mysteries of Maddie’s voice. Later tracks move one to reveal a more heady, lounge sound. There are very simplistic lyrics and a somewhat nineties approach in the making of this lazy, hazy jazz record. Let it Out is not exactly a dazzlingly innovative recording, but its lo-fi-ish production lends rather a home-spun quality, which makes it somehow more bearable. The lady can certainly sing, there is no doubt about it, and she certainly appears to be musically productive, but perhaps a fresher songwriting approach might make better use of her dulcet tones. - MMP Miniature Music Press

"Adam Walton"

Marvellously done. There's a great, evocative atmosphere to the production too...I really like this. - BBC Radio Wales

Bio

Maddie Jones, a young singer and songwriter from South Wales, has been making music for a fairly long, and somewhat irrelevant, amount of time. Consciously genre-shy and influenced by everything from folk, to funk, to life itself, her music is eclectic and contrasting within itself. She has left a substantial wake in the live music scenes in Cardiff, Bristol and London, with shows at venues including Ronnie Scotts and Colston Halls H Bar, and recently supporting Stephen Fretwell in Cardiffs Clwb Ifor Bach. Her recorded material to date is available through her website, iTunes and Amazon, and she is currently working on an experimental new recording, with the backing musicians who join her periodically for live shows, known affectionately as The Men.
