Madding Crowd

People ask what inspires us..."Certainly not the radio! Our influences aren't musical. We're more into people like Ghengis Kahn and Muhammed Ali." Allow your mind to be sonically stretched between many tiers of audible consciousness.

Biography

MADDING CROWD is a square kick in the pants and then the teeth while doubled over trying to recover from the unenviable stomach ache following such a humbling blow. The band is about boundless songwriting, an ever-evolving amalgamation of styles and thoughts coming together in a flawless live performance and precise, sharp & deliberate studio recordings. MADDING CROWD is a beautiful marraige of artists that inspire them like King's X, Jeff Buckley, Foo Fighters, The Police and Massive Attack.

As a cellist, classical guitarist and electric guitarist capable of anything from seductive slide guitar work to the most spontaneous and heartfelt chordal and solo jams, Greigh Gri Pearce will bring crowds to its collective weakened knees. He brings to MADDING CROWD pop/rock songwriting impregnated by a very hip ethnic feel brought on by the influence of flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, percussionist Manu Katche, his former teacher Ricardo Cobo, & Cuban guitarist Leo Brouwer. This, fused with the modernistic vibe of Chris Cornell, The Police, Paul McCartney & Peter Gabriel can give your mind a chance to swallow down the workings of the MADDING CROWD mind before you hear a sound.

Greigh Gri has worked with such high profile producers and engineers as Jon Siket (Sonic Youth & Phish) and Jason Corsaro of Soundgarden fame. He has played with T.M. Stevens (bassist for Steve Vai & Billy Joel), drove Bernie Worrel from Parliament to get cigarettes in a right hand drive Subaru, auditioned for a band led by Mick Sweda of the Bulletboys but didn't know it until afterwards, and been invited to Paul Gilbert’s Las Vegas home to remove refuse from the bowels of his kitchen, but then they played piano and talked about how great Elton John was. He has performed at clubs & colleges from Hartford to Las Vegas & was a featured artist at the 2001 Eat'M conference in Las Vegas. Greigh Gri has also had 6 number one songs run no fewer than 4 weeks in the alternative rock genre at MP3.com. I swear if anyone else says I sound like Gordon Sumner I'm gonna le freak.

Michael Goodspeed is a monster upright & electric bassist. An instructor and touring musician, his life dedicated to writing, performing and recording music. He has performed with jazz trios and rock outfits inside out and across New England and worked most recently performing original compositions for a national ad campaign.

Nick Toscano...the most musical and rhythmically provocative drummer to ever grace a rock trio. Nick toured the country with the alternative rock quartet Lotus and blues band Ryan Hartt and the Bluehearts. He graces back alley, dimly lit jazz clubs of Hartford & New Haven interpreting standards played by mentors like Jimmy Cobb & Elvin Jones. On an EP that Greigh Gri recorded in college, the collective essence of Stuart Copeland, Mitch Mitchell & Andy Sturmer were dancing about as Nick graced the live room of Power Station with glorious polyrhythms and the most hip, laid back grooves.

Despair

Written By: Greigh Gri Pearce

Despair

December is colder this year
Dark & gray above falls to white
The early setting sun draws a tear
Earthly mother shows her might

Standing outside my house
Frozen faced and eyes towards the sky
The deep reduced me to a mouse
And to the hills a coyote cries

Fall for me, bend your body down
Turn your eyes to me
Give your hand for me to hold
Happy is Despair that I own

Morning comes but the moon still shines
Attack the ground and run to your door
You look as I recall
Twisting and turning those curves my way
The staircase to your room is tall
“You owe me this”, is all she’d say

Fall for me, bend your body down
Turn your eyes to me
Give your hand for me to hold
Happy is Despair that I own

In Bed Alone

Written By: Greigh Gri Pearce

In Bed Alone

She gave me misery & hypocrisy
How is it that trouble always finds me?
And now, as if this weren’t bad enough
My people all look strange around me
Girl, it’s getting cold outside
In the summer I’ll be going for a ride

She loves me do, she loves me not
That girl gave everything she got
If I should go she’d still believe
That there was nothing up my sleeve
Now we’re both lying in bed alone

I’m fighting like I’m Frazier this disease
I’ve given all I can now… fallen to my knees
It’s 3 am who’s this knocking at my door?
Please leave me be, I’ve said my peace, I just want to be alone

She loves me do, she loves me not
That girl gave everything she got
If I should go she’d still believe
That there was nothing up my sleeve
Now we’re both lying in bed alone

She’d say, “I don’t know where you answer lies”
I’ll be there while you try to find it.
She couldn’t hear the beat of my heart
I should have seen it from the start.

She loves me do, she loves me not
That girl gave everything she got
If I should go she’d still believe
That there was nothing up my sleeve
Now we’re both lying in bed alone

My Quiet Room

Written By: Greigh Gri Pearce

My Quiet Room

When I feel the earth pressing on My Tired Soul
Her weight on my shoulders too great
I retire to my quiet room and the silence will grow
And I’ll wish for the things she should say

The first day I knew you I fell to your grace
I promised you love and I tried
I’ve given you my touch and my past to erase
Has the angel I’d love gone and died?

Sleep, tight
My sweet fallen angel
Your wings have grown weak by your side
I just woke from a dream you’d be mine

I’m blind to the world
When my thoughts run all wild
And I feel that she’s drifting from me
The sound of her voice let’s me know all the while
That the things that I dream up won’t be.

Don’t cast to the wayside my hand to your skin
Or the words that you woke to today
Another man may try to lay it all on the line
But without you I know that I’d die

Sleep, tight
My sweet fallen angel

April came I’m all alone
A single room my home
In a small northern town
The sun is slipping down
But love has broken down my door

When I feel the earth pressing on My Tired Soul
Her weight on my shoulders too great
I retire to my quiet room and the silence will grow
And I’ll wish for the things she should say

Now that I know you my life is in place
I’ll give what I have all the while
A small place on a hill and a picture in case
I grow old and forget how to smile
But we’ll walk hand in hand all the while
