Mad Lucas

Apostando por un sonido crudo y totalmente rocanrolero que se mezcla con algo de folk y letras en ingles cantadas con una voz rasposa, Lucas Aravena, a.k.a. Mad Lucas da rienda suelta a su creatividad en este proyecto que nos lleva por pasajes melancólicos y que nos hace recordar por qué el rock es capaz de tocar fibras tan sensibles.

Cuenta la leyenda que las canciones que componen su primer Mad, su primer EP, son el resultado de recopilar viejos escritos y casetes que tenía por ahí, en el olvido. Así que retomándolas e imprimiendo vivencias obtenidas durante sus visitas a lugares tan remotos como Australia, da vida a canciones como “The Sun”, o el primer sencillo “Summer’s Gone”, que nos pueden dar una idea de cómo sonará su siguiente disco, The Sun / The Moon.

En México aún no podemos verlo en directo, aunque hay expectativas, ya que recientemente hizo una gira por algunas ciudades de Estados Unidos, donde al parecer conectó muy bien con la audiencia. Chilean singer J. Lucas Aravena’s video for “Summer’s Gone” is populated with familiar set pieces of an American summer: Coney Island, the Aquarium in New York, and Venice Beach in California, along with footage shot while driving on the highway. Much like his sound, it’s not a hugely original approach, but it’s relatable, inviting, and intimate.

Mad Lucas forthcoming second album, The Sun/The Moon, was written as two contrasting collections of songs; the more melancholy side being The Moon, which was written while Aravena was living in Argentina; while The Sun which was conceived when he returned home to Chile, is more wide eyed and vibrant. “Summer’s Gone” is the first single from the album.

In between the family video-like takes, there’s some footage of Mad Lucas’ band playing their energetic live show; sadly, there’s no evidence of one of most talked about aspects of their act, when Lucas takes over drum, guitar and singing duties at the same time. Having never talked to the man I wouldn’t know, but perhaps Lucas is just one of those people chasing the eternal summer. At least “Summer’s Gone” seems to run after the season and ponders what would it happen if he can’t always reach it. - REMEZCLA

Mad Lucas is the solo project of the Chilean composer Lucas Aravena, who armed in his bass drum and hi hat form one side and his amazing voice and guitar from the other steps into the adventure of giving at every time a unique and new show.

All started three years ago thanks to forgotten compositions found in travel journals and cassettes. After leaving Chile, Lucas , former voice and guitar of the chilean band Rosamari , keeps with his song writing while achieving his film directing and sound engineer degrees. He first established in Queensland, Australia and then in Argentina , where he debuted live with his unique solo format having great reception in Buenos Aires.

The Mad Lucas project got together in to the studio in January 2013 with the recording of five self produced songs that kickoff a tornado of bittersweet flavors , pop melancholy and despair raw rock n ‘roll. Elements that ended shaping the unique character of this intense first EP. Mad Lucas delivers arrangements embodying influences from Spiritualized to John Lennon.

Currently in the process of production of his first long play , with a dozen of new songs that promise to bring a deep dynamic and energetic spirit to the new musical scene. Keep an eye on this young promise! - Futuro Freak
