Bio
Madou is the 71st generation to play kora in his family. His amazing abilities have brought him, from a very young age, before audiences around the world. His extensive tour history includes performances on all continents.
Madou stands apart as a master in a field of highly skilled musicians. For those familiar with the kora, and those unexposed to this music, this project promises an unforgettable experience of one of the world's most beautiful instruments. Presented as a duet, the dynamic possiblities of the music increase exponetially, shattering any misconceptions about the depth and complexity of West African music.
This collaboration is in the spirit of providing support for the survival and growth of Mali's long Griot tradition. Inspired by both the original Ancient Strings, which featured Madou's father Sidiki Diabate and the subsequent New Ancient Strings recording, which featured Madou's older brother Grammy-winner Toumani Diabate.
This project departs from the modern convention of watering-down traditional music into "world fusion," and emphasizes the depth and beauty of the kora tradition, a truly classical West African music.
