After hearing Mad Satta’s first release, self titled Mad Satta (released 16 March 2011), I was quick to check out their new EP, MAD SATTA EP (released 21 June 2012) and it was in no way disappointing. It’s impressive how much these guys fit into a and EP that lasts a little under twenty minutes.
It’ s safe to say that something special was created here. By fusing elements of funk, soul, jazz, pop, among others, Mad Satta provides the listener with a healthy yet compelling collage of juxtapositions, always providing something new to find and dissect on each listen. From the very start, Mad Satta gives the listener a lot to chew on. The first track on the EP, “Red Box” opens up with a simple guitar riff that instantly explodes into a hypnotic groove that you can’t help moving to; the rhythm section (Ben Carr- bass, Kevin Theodore- keys, Ted Morcaldi- guitar, Zane West- drums) lays down that robotic yet human pocket for Joanna (Joanna Teters-vocals) to soar over, which she does ever so soulfully. Not a minute of this track can be described as stagnant or boring; containing everything the listener would want, yet still leaving them wanting more… - Candid Music Group

Mad Satta is the forefront of a new movement in Soul and R&B music. This eclectic, eight-piece band merges elements of old-school soul with hip-hop, rock, and jazz creating an original sound that has been turning heads since it's inception. Founded by vocalist Joanna Teters and bassist Ben Carr in 2010, Mad Satta has assembled some of the most-promising young musicians from New England's Tri-State area to produce a powerful, unforgettable performance.
Joanna Teters confidently fronts the band with grace and depth of soul beyond her years, with her own musical roots deep in funk, reggae and jazz. She is joined by bass player and principle composer for the group, Ben Carr, keyboardist Kevin Theodore (Ever Forthright, Soul Understated), standout Connecticut guitarist Ted Morcaldi and multi-instrumentalist and drummer Zane West. In June of 2012, by adding Collin Wade on alto sax, Eric Zeiser on trumpet and Jason Fitch on tenor sax, Mad Satta took their sound to the next level. Having already appeared at venues such as The Bitter End, 92YTribeca, The Bowery Electric, DROM, Café 939 and The Falcon, they have caught the eye of many—from legendary musicians to young children, and everyone in between.
Mad Satta’s newest self-titled EP, released in June 2012, is infectious, fresh and soulful. From the opening track, “Red Box,” Carr’s popping bass lines, Morcaldi’s perfectly gritty syncopated riffs and Theodore’s unique piano textures reel the listener in. Teters’ voice is the perfect glue, smooth and sensual, to tie the elements all together. This release is a five track CD, composed of excellent original music and one cover, a fresh take on an old blues tune, “Something You Got” by Alvin Robinson.
