"The Subways w/MadYoungDarlings"

And good luck forgetting about the nattily attired Mad Young Darlings, who nearly stole the show with a 45-minute set of jittery, ominous alt-rock. The local quintet apparently landed their opening slot simply by sending The Subways an e-mail, and the chutzpah was evident as frontwoman Natasha stalked and strutted around the stage like a cross between PJ Harvey and Rayanne from My So-Called Life.

Bio

The music of the Mad Young Darlings is loud, dark, and emotionally driven, borrowing from their many influences but still very much their own

They are lead by the striking and ravenous siren Natasha, who finds herself either screaming or softly chanting her obsessions over the heavy-hearted alt rock of her equally charming and frightfully energetic band mates. The guitars of Brad Donahue and Chad Thompson range from overwhelming and savage to ethereal and lush. Add the driving power and intense heartbeat-style rhythms of drummer Antony Brouwer, and the Darlings manage to call upon a variety of musical styles, with influences ranging from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Failure.

Dressing with gothic-tinged romantic flare, and with a live show best described as convulsive, the Darlings are already receiving local acclaim. Releasing their first demo in late 2006 and playing with such notable acts as The Subways, Danko Jones and Inward Eye, the Mad Young Darlings are well on their way to becoming one of the dominant forces on the Canadian music scene.
