Bio
Maelee Whitman is a Minneapolis based, new wave folk band that gets its name from a legendary silent film star of the early 20th century. Their new release West of Pleasant can be found just south of ordinary. Maelee Whitman co-produced the album with Devon Bryant of the audio production company EIGHTYSEVENWEST (Sybris, Artless, the Saps). The band spent one weekend in a basement recording basic tracks for the album and one day at Chicago's Clava Studio (Modest Mouse, Joan of Arc, Califone) arranging final mixes. Salvatore Dellaria and Jonathan Raymond of EIGHTYSEVENWEST engineered the sessions. Additional players on the album include Stephanie Morris, Nate Houge and the Honest Folk, Josh Grenier and Patrick Werle.
Some recent performances in the Twin Cities include the Fine Line, the Turf Club, the Acadia Cafe Theater with Dorothy Scott and the Wellstone World Music day with Mason Jennings. With a strong network of fans, friends and family in larger midwest region, Maelee Whitman has played at venues such as Uncommon Ground, the Heartland Cafe and the Subterranean in Chicago, as well as Luther's Blues in Madison and the Kraftbrau and Trinity House Theater in Michigan with Delta 88. Maelee Whitman also performed at this year's NXNE festival in Toronto.
