Maffa Rico

Maffa Rico is the sound of a funky stewing of five years of writing and jamming between three original members, Brad Giroux (guitar/vocals), Patrick Berthiaume (bass/vocals/trumpet) and Quinn Wholean (drums) This Madison based group has funk roots that extend to many genres including punk rock, reggae, hip hop, metal, latin, jam, jazz and have influenced many songs that have been produced on their self titled EP, Maffa Rico EP. Recorded in July at Blasthouse Studios in Madison with producer Landon Arkens, the band recorded the EP with new drummer Quinn Wholean. Many of the songs on the self-titled EP include scenes and sounds that capture the spontaneous wonders of life in the city. The band has taken great mentorship from teachers like Rob Junceau III of Mighty Shortbus (bass), Stefan Treusdell of Natty Nation/ Weapons of Mass Defunktion (guitar), Keith Leinert (jazz drummer, The Big Payback) and many other influences such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Parliament, Talking Heads, Sly and the Family Stone, Pearl Jam, Phish, Soundgarden, The Meters, The Allman Brothers, Sublime, Santana, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, John Butler Trio, Bob Marley, and many others that have blended there way to create a unique funky Midwest sound that will make you groove.
