Bio
Magdalene formed in the spring of 2011, in South-East London. The songwriting partnership of Aster Guinness and Jacob Cheetham is brought to life by a band that take the tight grooves of Prince and the ethereal wooziness of Cocteau Twins.
The two lead voices are contrasting. Aster sings with the lazy, hypnotic phrasing of Lou Reed - whilst Jacob brings the androgynous torch-song of Antony Hegarty and Edith Piaf. They have recently recorded their debut E.P in Ireland's world-famous Grouse Lodge Studios, frequented by the likes of Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and REM. Bound for the summer festival circuit of 2012, booked for Ireland's Festival of Fire and Electric Picnic. Since playing their debut show at Ronnie Scott's, Magdalene have established themselves on London's gig scene - playing renowned venues including The Troubadour and The Roadtrip and Workshop in Old Street. They have also played Dublin's massive venue, The Button Factory.
In June Magdalene are releasing their self titled EP online and on CD, with a launch party scheduled for the same month.
