Biography

Singer Tracy J Reynolds, who’s better known as Maggie Rains is the front woman and leader of the group Maggie Rains & Crooked Keys, a six-piece Blues-Rock band that hails from Southern Colorado and who has toured numerous times around U.S. Creatively blending a multitude of genres as well as influences like Eva Cassidy, Koto Taylor, Aretha Franklin and Brian Setzer is what makes the foundation of Maggie’s music strong and suited for the masses. Those universal ingredients combined with her rich, deep and soulful performances blend together to form the perfect mixture of old nostalgia and today’s current market of adult contemporary needs. In Maggie’s latest release EP Anathallo (2016 - Invengo Records), her pure and defined deliveries to rearranged blues and jazz classics truly showcase her ability to step into a emotional filled piece of work and deliver it with undeniable grace and power.
In order to follow her dreams of a chosen career path in the music industry, after graduating high school she relocated to NYC in 2003 where she studied with renowned classical and Broadway vocal instructor Neil Semer. While in New York Maggie maintained a very busy schedule as well as reputation by hosting a radio show called ‘Sing it Sister’for NPR and also had a coveted residency at NYC’s Tangine with street performer and guitarist Jaques Monique. After working the hustle and bustle music scene of New York, Maggie moved towards forming her own brand and sound. She summoned producer Joshua Rumer and his production company Invengo Productions out of Austin, Texas to help develop something new and well needed in the industry: a revival of old classics twisted into modern formats exposing even the most fastidious ears to the roots of what made Maggie who she is. Maggie recorded and released her first solo holiday album 'Bows and Paper' produced and arranged by Joshua Rumer. The holiday album came loaded with fresh approaches and arrangements to holiday classics and received an abundance of airtime nationwide and in European markets (Stations Bearcast in Cincinnati, OH, KBBI, Homer, AK, KRZA, Alamosa, CO, KCRT Trinidad, CO.) as well as  support from web based podcasts (Women of Substance podcast). After the success of her holiday debut Maggie returned into the studio with Joshua Rumer, but this time the collaboration led them to discover a new path and direction - her raw power in her vocals with aged rhythm and blues compositions. They discovered that  packaging the sound up in a hard hitting yet eloquent format would win the ears of a multitude of varying demographics while, at the same time, allow Maggie to showcase her diverse range of stylings. Thus, 'Anathallo' was born (which in Greek means 'revival’). Maggie Rains & Crooked Keys have played Trinidaddio Blues FestCannapower FestTaste of CreedeToxic FestivalSXSW, KRZA BenefitLa Jara and Center Summer Concert Series, Santa Ana y Santiago FiestaDel Norte Trail Showcase, Headwater Festival, Salida Wine FestivalCastle Rock ArtFestAVSAR FundraiserIBC 2018 Blues Contest, and Shoutfest (Austin) as well as local Colorado venues like SLV Brewing Co. and Walter's Brewery and Pub plus many others.

Lyrics

Grandma's Hands

Written By: Bill Withers

Grandma's hands
Clapped in church on Sunday morning
Grandma's hands
Played a tambourine so well
Grandma's hands
Used to issue out a warning
She'd say, "Billy don't you run so fast
Might fall on a piece of glass
"Might be snakes there in that grass"
Grandma's hands

Grandma's hands
Soothed a local unwed mother
Grandma's hands
Used to ache sometimes and swell
Grandma's hands
Used to lift her face and tell her,
She'd say "Baby, Grandma understands
That you really love that man
Put yourself in Jesus hands"
Grandma's hands

Grandma's hands
Used to hand me piece of candy
Grandma's hands
Picked me up each time I fell
Grandma's hands
Boy, they really came in handy
She'd say, "Matty don' you whip that boy
What you want to spank him for?
He didn't drop no apple core"
But I don't have Grandma anymore

If I get to heaven I'll look for
Grandma's hands

God Bless the Child

Written By: Billie Holiday

Them that's got shall have
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible says and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own

Yes the strong get smart
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own

Money, you've got lots of friends
They're crowding around your door
But when you're gone and spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give crusts of bread and such
You can help yourself, but don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own

Money you've got lots of friends
They're crowding around your door
But when you're gone and spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give crusts of bread and such
You can help yourself, but don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own

Here just don't worry about nothing cause he's got his own
Yes, he's got his own

People Get Ready

Written By: eva cassidy

People get ready
There's a train a-coming
You don't need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
You just thank the Lord
People get ready
For the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers
From coast to coast
Faith is the key
Open the doors and board them
There's room for all
among the loved the most
There ain't no room
for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just
To save his own
Have pity on those
whose chances are thinner
Cause there's no hiding place
From the Kingdom's Throne
So people get ready
for the train a-comin'
You don't need no baggage
you just get on board !
All you need is faith
to hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
you just thank, you just thank the Lord
