We turn to our Israel music network now for a seven track affair which embraces a distinct touch of the psychedelic with the opening forays of ‘Tomorrow’. Found in the derivative is a tantalising degree of scope and this is an approach which envelops proceedings with a balanced sense of the alternative. A heighted development favourably ensues with the outline. Again this approach is doled out on ‘Aliens vs Robots’. The imaginative way the sci-fi elements steer the rhythm builds pensively. From there a purloined sense of majesty engulfs the delivery with a determined sense of appreciation commanding your attention in the clean way the progressive yield take hold. The instrumental direction shifts with ‘Horse’. It is a sedate number and the caress of the vocals is carried aloft on the euphoric measurement which consumes the way it is pitched. Afforded a tidy front it proves to be a prevailing effort which nurtures the artistry in the appreciated way it all unfurls.

Showcasing a more determined front, while retaining the same sense of identity, is ‘After The Rain’. The fluidity accommodates the more ambient approach but it also feels calculated. The texture also approaches the sullen characteristics head on and in some ways the latter progressions feel like a hybrid of Trent Reznor influences merging with Radiohead. It is quite an interesting pique which rounds upon this modernity without falling short. How the mood and tone settle here is what really captures the essence. From the initial way it opens ‘Angel’ nurtures the ebb and flow. What is also happened upon in the minute touches corners the sophistication accordingly. Yet the traipsed censure is what breathes life into the track. Penultimate track ‘Day’ very much leans on the progressive side. The stirrings plant a fundamental appreciation for the playing side of things. This is ceremoniously given a platform and the result is a lavish affair with a telling sense of an alternative collectiveness brought across in the process. ‘Go On’ is very much a case of the band saving the best ‘til last. This is a track which concentrates the subtlety at every turn. There is an abstract presence to it and the careful way it is considered brings the potential of the marginalised attributes to the fore. It is quite ornate in places but in the undertone is a pensive touch which adds its own contention. - U&I

Magic Pillow Factory komt uit Tel Aviv en combineert psychedelische rock met electro en post-rock. De band werd in 2014 opgericht door Roy Messiah, Saar Gez en Shani Brone. Begin dit jaar vertrok lead singer Saar naar Amerika en nam de getalenteerde zanger Avner Tueg zijn plaats in. De drie muzikanten zijn beïnvloed door de verschillende stromingen in de elektronische muziek, maar ook door psychedelische rock en klassieke muziek. Ze zijn er in geslaagd om al deze stijlen met elkaar te combineren op debuut EP ‘Magic Pillow Factory’. De eerste single is de prachtige track ANGEL. Drummer Roy Messiah vertelt: “We have really simple songs but there is almost always a lot of things going on in the background. A comparison to life is applicable. There are only a few moments when there are no distractions or thousands of things going on in your head at the same time. Life happens in layers. Een paar keer in m'n leven is het me overkomen dat ik bij de eerste keer horen van muziek diep onder de indruk ben en volledig mee genomen wordt in de opvolging van geluiden, melodiën en geluidspatronen, bijvoorbeeld de eerste keer dat ik "Wish You Were Here" hoorde.

De heren van Magic Pillow Factory hebben dat weer voor elkaar gekregen. Of deze muziek net zo "heilig" wordt als die van Pink Floyd moet de tijd nog bewijzen, maar de potentie is er. (Ik hoop dat ik dit over 40 jaar nog eens kan bevestigen.)

Deze muziek is in één woord prachtig! Nogmaals, er wordt veel goede muziek gemaakt, maar lang niet altijd lukt het om me ononderbroken van het ene moment in het andere moment mee te nemen in volledige adoratie. Oké, de nummers zijn relatief kort in vergelijking met genoemd album. Toch vermoed ik dat de totale speelduur van deze EP in de buurt komt van een aloude LP.

De juiste toon aanslaan met muziek, de aandacht vasthouden met de juiste accenten en teasers, de emotie opbouwen en weer laten weg glijden om het weer opnieuw op te kunnen bouwen, het gebeurt allemaal.

O ja, ze komen uit Tel Aviv, wie had dat kunnen vermoeden. Valt er niks te zeuren? Jawel, hun website is heel modern en hip, alleen ik krijg de zenuwen van deze opmaak. Er beweegt te veel waar ik geen controle op heb.
