Bio

Friends and guitarists Ryan St. John and Paco Higdon decided to form a band in 2007 with a drum machine. However, when the drum machine was placed in front of the drum set, it proved to be unresponsive. Ryan's cousin Steven Nagle and Paco's brother James Higdon were then added on drums and bass, respectively, to form Magic Firewater. Since the band's first show on May 17, 2008, in Ryan's backyard, the band has gone on to play many venues in Michigan, including Modern Skate and Surf, AJ's Cafe, multiple parks in Birmingham, the Eagle Theater, and Clutch Cargo's.

Lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Paco Higdon is known for his clever lyrics, blistering guitar solos, and tuxedo T-shirts. Ryan St. John, the band's rhythm guitarist, often provides impressive vocal harmonies while enriching the band's sound with his complimentary lead and rhythm parts. Bass player James Higdon fills the stage with his groovy bass lines, gritty tone, and background vocals. Drummer Steve Nagle keeps it all together with his impressively technical beats and fills.

All four members are fans of bands all over the rock and roll spectrum and are incredibly goofy, morphing the band into a hodgepodge of diversely fun music, wit, and unpredictable stage presence that listeners have had difficulty comparing to any particular artists. Audiences never forget elements of a Magic Firewater live show, including their solid musicianship, improvised banter, and their tendency to never play a song the same way twice. Magic Firewater is always willing to play to audiences of any size and never fails to entertain.
