Bio
The sound of Magnatite is progressive funk rock, with frequent visits to improvisational, experimental, metallic, ambient, and rhythmic realms.
Magnatite started in 2009 with the promise of a band between bassist Sam Damask and drummer Bo Thomas. Demanding tracks for an album that wasn't entirely written would be recorded with little rehearsal time to tape in a marathon two-day recording session, under a loose agreement that 3-4 years later the band would materialize, begin to play live, and continue the journey.
In the intervening years, Sam went to school in Boston, and met Bo in Texas during holidays to work on the album. Bo was wounded in two motorcycle accidents, which resulted in injuries rendering him barely able to play the drums. Bo has since rehabilitated himself, and continues to ride.
In November 2013 guitarist and singer songwriter Zach Smith joined. Nootropic became Magnatite and released debut album 5th Level en Route.
