"Magnesia Cd Review"

Comments: The organized chaos that is MaGnesia's new self titled album MaGnesia is a fusion of anything and everything. From funk to metal, classical to progressive, if you can think of a genre, it is probably somewhere in this small collection of songs. This combination of sounds creates a creative, intense, and sexy sound unlike any other. The smooth lyrics are contrasted with piercing sounds and screams. The intricate bass line gives the song life along with the constantly evolving drums. The guitar, which often is overpowering in many rock bands, compliments in such a way that gives the music depth and character.

The song "Damn Skippy," is the catchiest of all the songs. Its walking bass line, funk inspired drumming, metallic sounding guitar, and memorable lyrics create a song that will keep you saying "Daaamn Skippy" all day long. There is no way to escape it; just accept the fact that you will not be able to get this one out of you head for a couple of days.

"Europa" has a more progressive vibe to it. The guitar throwing staccato notes everywhere as the drums tap on the high hat at an extreme pace. The vocals are more abrupt, more intense, and choppier. This song does not have that feeling of lustrous sexiness; rather, it is full of angst and rage.

"Lollipot Forest" is divergent song, contrasting lethargy with heaviness comparable to some of the hardest metal bands out there. It's subdued, hazy sounds are created with vocals that are soft and fluid, choral sounding guitars, and a laid back drum beat. The relaxed song is then shattered with the deep, down in your gut, screams, distorted guitars and crashing symbols.

"Akira's Revenge," is only described as insane. There is the deep indistinguishable murmur of the vocalist that crescendos into something purely metal. There is what is only comparable to clucking made by both the guitarist and the vocalist. The bass line is similar to a heart beat through out, remaining simple, steady, and crucial. The drums complement whatever is going on with the vocals and guitars, which ranges from funky riffs to hot and heavy screams and everything between.

Overall, this album has something for everyone. Whether you like progressive or metal, funk or classical, this album has it all and the kitchen sink. This exceptional fusion of music is not only entertaining to listen to as you never know what is coming up next, it is also genuinely good. If you would like to hear something different that maintains a consistently excellent quality, MaGnesia is definitely worth a whirl.

Bio

MaGnesia is a four-piece metal fusion band from southern Connecticut , cutting teeth the past year at The Knitting Factory Main Stage NYC and Toad's Place.
The music is madcap, progressive, and intense; original songs that groove, swell, and jump. Chris Baldwin's eccentric lyrics and inspired vocals channel many characters; guitarist Rob DiRoma Jr. and bassist Chris Rivera engage often, and in harmonious layers; and Dan Acedo's hard hitting, groovy drum work provides a rhythmic backdrop.
The band's high-energy, 90-minute, live performances dabble in the extreme – a fusion of rock, funk, jazz, metal, Latin, and classical. Yet MaGnesia is, inescapably and refreshingly wild at heart.
MaGnesia just finished up 2007 with a packed audience at the infamous Knitting Factory Main Stage in NYC. Magnesia also got an incredible CD Review from online rock review site Hardrock Heaven getting a 9/10 on there newly released EP which is available at shows, through snocap and a hard copy will be available through the website asap. Magnesia is taking some time off to record a full length double album, but will be back in early april to do some mini tours throughout the US and be playing more extensively in the NYC area for the rest of the 2008.
