"Magnus Hitch is either the smartest band in the world or the dumbest"

Q: What is your goal with this band? Do you want to save the world, be on the cover of Rolling Stone?

Magnus Hitch: We want to be able to cure cancer through music. Maybe get to the point where sick people can lean against an amp and I can blast them with some cancer-killing notes. They are the hardest to play.

Q: Tell us about the best show you’ve ever played.

Magnus Hitch: Hands down: Chuckie Cheese NYE 2000. We rocked so loud that we had all the kids crying and their parents were swearing at us and throwing pizza.

Q: What trouble have you run into along the way?

Magnus Hitch: We fight about donuts a lot. Other baked goods too, but mostly donuts.

Q: What is the process you usually follow to create a new song?

Magnus Hitch: Sit in a circle, yell obscenities at each other, and tell each person how they have disappointed us recently.

Q: When you’re not playing music what are some of your interests?

Magnus Hitch: I collect old sponges, and Dave macramé denim jackets.

"Friday the 13th Show"

I hope nobody gets an invite and gets angry, then judges me for it.
(...but the show is next FRIDAY the 13th..dress in costume for a chance to win the raffle..)

But more importantly I worked at the MAGNUS HITCH show last night at blakes. First off, those guys played a GREAT set. They really are talented, and there is only run three of them. Their harmonies are spot on, and their sounds are otherworldly. This is due to:

A.) A guitar run through a Korg KP-3 (Kaoss Pad)
B.) REASON
C.) A Sample Pad / Keyboard setup which the drummer used in conjunction with playing a beat with his free hand.
D.) VERY solid bass.
E.) VERY solid everything else.

However the show ran pretty late, and I took my time taking everything down, so it was very difficult to get up for my Pro Tools lab at school. (which is funny, because all I do is work on Pro Tools, yet I find it difficult to 'get up' and 'go to class', which entails more Pro Tools using. I should go on independent study.) I've got it from 8am til 12pm, and the commute takes an hour that early in the morning. I found a house to move into. Assuming that I get it, that should cut my commute down significantly.

I feel bad for not mentioning the other bands who played last night. Mad props to 'P.K.', and 'Firstlook'

"“Nothing to Hide” revealed by Magnus Hitch"

Los Angeles, CA – Magnus Hitch has unveiled its new single “Nothing to Hide” from the trip-out that is the band’s self-titled, full-length debut. The group’s heady progressive psyche rock pulls heavily from the acid-inspired rock of back in the day but also culls plenty from the new wave scene. And it’s all wrapped up in a post-modern sound that bends time and space and even features a dollop of pop accessibility.

“Nothing to Hide” is a fuzzed-out but focused batch of psyche energy that brings all the band’s major influences to bear under their artistic magnifying glass. Earnest and edgy and a transcending trip through rock, “Nothing to Hide” is a hip-yet-brainy musical excursion. But this is only the beginning. The album as a whole is a journey, with many aural secrets to be revealed along the way.

“The single is representative of many facets of our sound – as much as one song can hope to be,” says Magnus Hitch., “but there are many other facets revealed throughout the disc.”

The first meeting of Dave Farina and David Powell planted the seeds for what would become Magnus Hitch. After jams sessions and much discussion, the collaboration bore fruit based on the realization that both artists were on the same page. A bassist was sought out, material was put together and the shows began. A little line-up tinkering followed and now the group is complete with Dave, David and Paul Hiller on bass.

The new album demonstrates much growth on the band’s part. It is a more ambitious recording than the earlier EP. Partly, this is due to Magnus Hitch’s being able to enjoy the luxury of more studio time this go around.

The band has played a number of prominent San Francisco venues and is currently working with A&R Select, the world’s leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Bio

Magnus Hitch is a band committed to fusing the ideals of vintage psychedelic and progressive rock with a modern post-rock attitude and a devotion to manipulating technology to enrich the sonic landscape. All of these elements are combined with a deep respect for jazz-fusion musicianship and truly prolific song writing to create an original blend of influence and music. The group's heady progressive psyche rock pulls heavily from the acid-inspired vintage rock of the 60's and 70's but also culls plenty from the new wave scene. And it's all wrapped up in a post-modern sound that even features a dollop of pop accessibility.

The first meeting of Dave Farina (Drums, Keys, Vocals) and David Powell (Guitar, Samples, Vocals) in the Summer of 2006 planted the seeds for what would become Magnus Hitch. A little line-up tinkering followed and Paul Hiller (Bass, Vocals) joined the group in the Fall of 2007 and the San Francisco based trio immediately went into the studio to record their debut EP. Recorded by Charlie Buetter at San Francisco's acclaimed Hyde street studios, the self titled EP features a fuzzed-out but focused batch of psyche energy that brings all the band's major influences to bear under their artistic magnifying glass. Earnest and edgy and a transcending trip through rock, "Magnus Hitch" is a hip-yet-brainy musical excursion. The band currently plans on relocating to Los Angeles in the Fall and will head back into the studio to record a full length album and tour nationally in 2009.
