MAias Alyamani

In 2000 MAias started his career as solo violinist and composer, and since then he has performed and shared his music all over the world with many top artists and orchestras like Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica, Daniel Barenboim, Dave Pierce, and many others.

MAias has a Master’s Degree from Vienna University of Music, majoring in Violin Performance with special focus on Composition.

During his studies he won the Competition of Vienna University of Music, and participated in the international Paganini Competition in Italy. He was the only Arab ever to participate in these competitions.

He was a member of Südbahnhof Band in Vienna. The band is still performing in Europe and it was a finalist and won the Audience price at the World Music Awards, which took place in Vienna 2006.

In 2006, MAias established the MAqam Ensemble in Vienna, specializing in classical Arabic music. The ensemble is a big success in Europe and Middle-East with more than 200 concerts in 22 countries
MAias is a member of the Damascus Festival Chamber Players ensemble, which focuses on contemporary Arabic music.

Over 40 of his instrumental compositions were performed by symphony orchestras, jazz bands and other ensembles: the Inauguration of Opera House in Damascus 2004, International Violin Meeting in Amman in 2004, The tour of SNSO in Italy 2005, Fest Der Visionen in Vienna 2006, Donau Festival in Vienna 2007, ORF Cultural Festival in Vienna 2008, Chamber Music Festival in Doha 2010, Music and Dialog Festival in Doha with Daniel Barenboim 2011, Oriental Spaces Festival Damascus 2011 and 2012, Season-Opening Concert with Dominican National Orchestra in Santo Domingo 2011, Syrian Cultural Week in Moscow 2011,Olympic Arab Games Opening Ceremony in Doha 2011, Fajer Festival in Tehran 2012, Esterhazy Festival with Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica 2012, Italy Tour with Palestinian Youth Orchestra 2012, Season- Opening Concert in Budapest with Gyor Orchestra 2012, Season- Opening concert with Qatar Philharmonic in 2012.

He made a large amount of solo recordings for film music, music bands, live theatre and TV shows soundtracks, and has recorded four albums.

In 2011 MAias has founded the MAias Alyamani Orchestra which consists of 25 professional musicians. The repertoire of the MAias Alyamani Orchestra is based mainly on new compositions and arrangements of Arabic and Middle-Eastern composers. MAO musicians are selected very carefully to create together a special performing character that goes perfectly with MAO’s unique repertoire.

In 2000 MAias gave his first solo concert with the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra In Baghdad, Iraq. The Syrian National Symphony Orchestra was established in 1991 by Solhi Alwadi, and during this short time the Orchestra created a very good reputation in the Middle East. Following this successful collaboration MAias and Maestro Missak Baghboudarian went on many tours performing MAias’ music with SNSO, playing more than 20 concerts in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey and Italy.
