Mai is a musical swiss army knife; a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and collaborator who brings a variety of skills and inspiration to all her creative projects. She writes, sings and lives from the heart.

Biography

Mai Bloomfield is a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in Los Angeles, her musical path began with cello at age 9, and by 16 she was playing and writing her own songs on guitar. Out of college, Mai helped start the all-female band RAINING JANE, who have since released 4 albums. They’ve had music featured on GREY'S ANATOMY, and have also been credited for their collaborations with JASON MRAZ (co-writing songs such as “A Beautiful Mess.”) As of late, Raining Jane is most proud of their work with ROCK N' ROLL CAMP FOR GIRLS, a non-profit they launched in 2010 dedicated to empowering girls through music.

Beyond her work with Raining Jane, Mai has been gaining recognition as a songwriter in her own right. Her first solo EP “Eclipse” featured songs that led her to become a Winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest (2011) and a two-time Finalist in the Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest (2010+2011).

While the craft of songwriting is a fundamental piece that drives her as an artist, Mai also thrives by collaborating with others, be it on stage, screen or in the studio. She has been on THE TONIGHT SHOW with SARA BAREILLES and INGRID MICHAELSON, and has played on records for many other artists such as ADAM COHEN and WILLY PORTER. In 2011 Mai joined Cohen on an extensive international tour, both as an opening artist as well as part of his trio, with shows reaching from Canada to Europe and Australia.

Mai is an artist who pushes the envelope; she plunges into any musical endeavor with gusto, inspiration and heart. The vulnerability, conviction and poetry that she brings to the page is reflected not only in her music, but also in the way she leads her life as an artist.

Eclipse

Written By: Mai Bloomfield

On the day before you leave I am dreaming
There are so many days still ahead
I feel like I can see forever
Across the landscape of this bed
Soon there will be an ocean
Between us like a full moon
When I stare into the sea full of stars
I’ll always… think of you

Life reads to me now in chapters
It’s an old book that I write
I stare at the page with a pen in my hand
I move down the path of my life
Sometimes it changes direction
But I never lose sight
Like a telescope to the window
I see you every night… we’re always side-by-side

Flying with the crows
Higher than we’d ever known
If love is like gravity and a stone
Then I can’t take you back
Cause I never let you go

Now I’m heading home from the airport
The sun is setting on the sea
When I wake up it’ll be your evening
A full day between you and me
But love has a way of eclipsing everything
Like time and distance
Which have no hold on me… together we’ll always be

Flying with the crows
Higher than we’d ever known
Our love is like gravity and a stone
It won’t hold us back
Cause it never let us go
It won’t hold us back and it’ll never let us go
It won’t hold us back and we’ll never let go

Down To The Water

Written By: Mai Bloomfield

I want something beautiful to color my skin
I want open windows to let the light in
I want a new picture of how life could be
I want a reflection to reckon with me

So I go down to the water
I sink my feet in the sand
I lean over the mirror
I reach down with my hands
Pour the ocean over my face
A salty saving grace
No more armor
Only faith

I have a closet full to the brim with clothes
I have a running list of all that owe
I have far too much to eat
I am getting too much sleep
I have too much and I ought to let it go

So I go down to the water
I sink my feet in the sand
I lean over the mirror
I reach down with my hands
I pour the ocean over my face
A salty saving grace
No more holding
Only space

I am careful with what I say
I am careful not to get in the way
I am running out of time
I am running myself blind
I am ready to unwind

I go down to the water
I sink my feet in the sand
I lean over the mirror
I reach down with both my hands
Pour the ocean over my face
A salty saving grace
No more worry
Only peace

Only peace

Running Out Of Time

Written By: Mai Bloomfield

I can't afford the burden of indecision anymore
The price of this condition is more than I bargained for
I put it off, now I wish that I had been warned
About the little clock that’s getting too loud to ignore

Lately the pace of my life has kept me from sleep
I can’t see the steps I can’t even find my feet
I feel like I’m running in place in some unshakeable dream
Is my apprehension is gaining on me?

I feel like I'm running
I feel like I'm running out of time

My friends are all moving up, they’re all moving in
Bigger is better for houses and cars – They got the money, the marriage, the kids
I never needed it all and I never lived by a shopping list but
Comparing apples to oranges, that’s dangerous

I feel like I'm falling
I feel like I'm falling far behind

Then you say
This is patience with a heart
This is learning how to run in the dark
This is caution to the wind
When you don’t know where to begin
Look at where you’ve been

I feel like I’m running
I feel like I’m falling
I feel like I’m barely hanging on…

Sway

Written By: Mai Bloomfield

Sway me to the moon
Lets get lost in an orbital swoon
Sail me to the stars
Lets burn bright like beating hearts

Throw out your lines
Draw me in like summertime
I’ll swim up your river if you swim up mine
Lets intertwine

Every now and then I wake up in the middle of a dream
Can’t be sure of what is real or fantasy
So I just close my eyes

Turn down the lights
Lets make it last all night
Morning comes too soon
When we’re swaying to the moon

Every now and then I wake up in the middle of a dream
Can’t be sure of what is real or fantasy
So I just close my eyes
And we fly
In the night
Just you and I
You and I
