"Friday Night's the Night for Spring and Much More"

It's well documented that I'm a big fan of Vanessa Torres, so let me tell you about the other sing-songwriter sharing the bill with her at Frontier Cafe & Cineam. Her name is Mai Bloomfield, and after hearing her song "Eclipse," I knew that The Lucid would have to share the title of new favorite song this week. "Love is like gravity and stone, it won't hold us back cause it never let us go" sings Bloomfield with her supremely gorgeous voice. Go to myspace.com/maibloomfield and listen to that and the two other tracks she has posted. When she's not doing her solo thing, Bloomfield's part of the band Raining Jane, which has apparently flown under my radar, having played in this area several times. This is Bloomfield's first solo gig and considering that Torres is the other half of the show, I've got four words to say: Brunswick here I come. - The Portland Press Herald

"The Southeast Examiner"

An adept and exceptional cellist with a classical background of many years, her powerfully honest musings are life-lessons, sung with a clear, capable and concerned voice, bridging bright pop and acoustic songwriter folk. - Portland, Oregon

Bio

Mai Bloomfield is a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in Los Angeles, her musical path began with cello at age 9, and by 16 she was playing and writing her own songs on guitar. Out of college, Mai helped start the all-female band RAINING JANE, who have since released 4 albums. They’ve had music featured on GREY'S ANATOMY, and have also been credited for their collaborations with JASON MRAZ (co-writing songs such as “A Beautiful Mess.”) As of late, Raining Jane is most proud of their work with ROCK N' ROLL CAMP FOR GIRLS, a non-profit they launched in 2010 dedicated to empowering girls through music.

Beyond her work with Raining Jane, Mai has been gaining recognition as a songwriter in her own right. Her first solo EP “Eclipse” featured songs that led her to become a Winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest (2011) and a two-time Finalist in the Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest (2010+2011).

While the craft of songwriting is a fundamental piece that drives her as an artist, Mai also thrives by collaborating with others, be it on stage, screen or in the studio. She has been on THE TONIGHT SHOW with SARA BAREILLES and INGRID MICHAELSON, and has played on records for many other artists such as ADAM COHEN and WILLY PORTER. In 2011 Mai joined Cohen on an extensive international tour, both as an opening artist as well as part of his trio, with shows reaching from Canada to Europe and Australia.

Mai is an artist who pushes the envelope; she plunges into any musical endeavor with gusto, inspiration and heart. The vulnerability, conviction and poetry that she brings to the page is reflected not only in her music, but also in the way she leads her life as an artist.
