Once the Founder and Leader of the Souls Suvivaz, Mainframe is the next level in the evolution of Christian and Positive Hip Hop. Hailing from the Upstate South Carolina, Joshua “Mainframe” Cullins is a true artist and brings over 8 years and 5 albums worth of experience to the table. Combining the harsh realities of the world with the influx of truth from the Word of God, Mainframe brings a universal style and skill level that speaks to the soul.
Although Mainframe aspired to a professional Visual Artist at an early age; by age 15 he began to write rhymes and poetry inspired by various MCs. Using rap as a platform to enlighten the masses and fight the powers that be, he says, "I was a troubled kid; always on edge and always in trouble. I went to Church and got saved but I still stayed in trouble. Mostly because I respected God but I felt like I had no place in life. Couple that with past scars and broken relationships with family so when I didn’t lash out physically, I lashed out in Art, Music and Poetry. Certain MCs became my heroes because I could identify with their pain.


After much trial and error, he went the studio and joined his first group “The Massacre”. He continues, "…at the time, me and my homeboy were the biggest Art/ Hip Hop heads you'd find. We did a truckload of mixtapes and battles at school. Some of the dudes I used to chypha with wanted to collaborate on a track and my man Black Mist had a studio that he went to. We hit it up and MA double was born.”


Mainframe was beginning to find out that he was a natural on the mic, but that initial taste of success came with an after taste of guilt. He says "Well we did the first track and started playing it around school and people were loving it. People weres like, Yo Cullins, I didn’t know u had it like that. We were putting out more tracks people were feeling, but it was crazy though lines like M-A double S leave you in a bloody mess wasn’t resting with me too well anymore. God was starting to transform me but at the time I wasn’t sure into what”.


Just as the bible says old things have passed away and all things become new, Mainframe was about to pull a 180. He says, “You know, after God called me, it was a serious wake up call. I lost so many friends to the streets and family to prison. So how can I live with myself or have good conscience toward God and promote what’s killing my people. It was a no-brainer that my music had no brain, so to speak.


Mainframe speaks on the trails of opposition from traditionalists. "Well when I started the Suvivaz, I wasn’t naive enough to think that we would be accepted across the board, but did I expect the level of hate that ensued? nah. Its a trip though because, if people realize that we’re all on the same team fighting towards the same goals, we could get things done. But there are a lot of people who really don’t worry about souls saved versus having things the way they want it.”


Mainframe feels as though his music is giving birth to a new genre. "I had the box mentality at one point due to the whole debate over the so called True vs. Fake, Positive vs. Conscience, Gospel vs. Christian rap discussions, but I’m so passed that now to the point that I do not consider myself a gospel rapper. I don’t write secular or church music but “Life Music”.


Music about life from a Christian perspective. In life everyone plays their role, I feel like it’s my role to tackle the serious issues and bridge the gap. Being a Christian is applying Jesus to every aspect of your life… not just Sundays and church related things. If your brother has a drug problem, talking about them going to Church getting up and testifying about how blessed you are cause your not a drug addict doesn’t cure his addiction. I say lets bring the real issues to the table and help those who need it."


Mainframe has opened up for such acts as John P. Kee and Catalyst. He’s appeared on television shows on CW and CTN networks and also performed at the Holy Hip Hop Awards. Recently he is shaking the hip hop world with his debut solo album “City of Light”. His intent is to ignite his vision, which doubles as his calling; to help inspire a people towards a mindset of higher learning, united for the kingdom of God. With his “real talk” philosophy, razor sharp delivery and Southeast swagger, the sky’s the limit for the kid from the Electric City.
