Bio

Mainman, aka J.R. Carey, was born June 22, 1981 in Kennett, Missouri. The 26-year-old hip-hop artist/songwriter is from Chicago, Illinois by way of Omaha, Nebraska. After a brief stint of semi professional basketball, Mainman decided to move from Chicago, Illinois to Atlanta, Georgia. Although Chicago is where Young Main came out of his shell to become the artist that he is today, Main thought the move to ATL would be more beneficial for his business endeavors. In Atlanta, Mainman re-united with former classmate and basketball teammate, Grayling Jones, Jr., aka Jones Jr. The two formed Team Mainman, Inc., a music entertainment company. Mr. Jones, CEO, manages the company's day-to-day operations. Mainman is definitely a breath of fresh air to the hip-hop roundtable. His clever style and witty punch lines definitely makes him a crowd pleaser. Mainman is often compared to some of the best hip-hop artists. Many critics say he has the voice tone of a young Jay-Z, the Midwest freshness of Kanye West, and the punch lines of a new Rakim. All these similarities together with the consciousness of Nas, and you have Mainman. Main has been a part of the Midwest hip-hop movement taking the heartland by storm with his hit singles "Work" and "I Ain't Got It." The Mainman is set to release the highly anticipated album "Workman's Comp" later this year. The album's first single, “Income Tax”, guarantees to be a mainstay on the radio. "Workman's Comp" is sure to pump life back into the hip-hop industry.
Mainman has opened up for many mainstream artists, such as The Clipse, Mya, J.Holiday, and Twista, just to name a few. In addition to his unique music, Mainman provides uplifting services for his community. Team Mainman, Inc. is also the parent company for "The Mr. John Henry Foundation", a non-profit organization that assists the underprivileged in the Atlanta Metro community.
