"Review online"

Born and raised in Holland, Maite Hontelé grew up listening to her parents' son and salsa albums. After picking up the trumpet, she relocated to Colombia and recorded two EPs ("Llegó la moña" and "Mujer sonora"). On her third release she finally delivers a full fledged CD, and what a treat it is!

The title track's son will have you dancing close in a little square (no need for turns). Juan Fernando Giraldo's vocals and Maite's smooth trumpet sound makes this track a must, and an excellent way to start the CD. "Qué bonito" is another son but this one swings harder (maybe one or two turns), thanks to special guest bass master, Alaín Pérez (he and pianist Melón revolutionized timba when they were part of early Issac Delgado's band).

But not everything is son. There's a boogaloo "Coquín, coquín", a puertorican plena "Tu rumberito llegó" and the classic Pedro Flores bolero "Perdón", sung by the one and only Oscar D' León. Here Oscar demostrates that even in a bolero, he's a master improviser. He compares himself to Sleeping Beauty to explain he will be living in a sleeping state of mind if she doesn't forgive him. Classic!

Maite Hontelé, thank you for keeping the music authentic and fresh. Very nice indeed! - Salsa Power.com

"Review Brasil most important salsa blog"

"Haarlems Dagblad (newspaper Holland)"

- Haarlems Dagblad

Bio

Maite Hontele is a Dutch trumpet player living in Medellin, Colombia. Her latin-band tours worldwide.

Hontele was born in Utrecht, Holland, and was brought up with music: her parents own a huge collection of salsa and son cubano; every day she would listen to latin music, quite unusual for a Dutch girl.

She studied latin and jazz trumpet at the conservatory of Rotterdam, and started touring with latin-bands, Dj's and jazz formations.

Her first big tour was in Colombia, the country where she now lives. She fell in love with the country and decided to record a tribute to Colombian music. This EP was launched in 2009 and was a hit. This is when Maite decided to move to Colombia.

From that year on Maite has been touring all over the world, from Bogota to Malaysia, from the USA to Israel.

The list of festivals include the North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland), Salsa al Parque (Colombia), Cubadisco (Cuba), Penang World Music Festival (Malaysia), Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival (Aruba).

In 2010 her second EP 'Mujer Sonora' was launched. The album is focused on old-school styles such as son and charanga, but also contains some spicy salsa-tracks.

This album was presented during the North Sea Jazzfestival of 2010, and on various (inter)national tours.

Over the last few years Maite toured in many countries with her band and was guest-player with: Ruben Blades, Yuri Buenaventura, Issac Delgado, Buena Vista Social Club, Grupo Gal, Juan Carlos Coronel, Oscar D'Leon, and many others.

In april 2013 her new album 'Dejame Asi' was released, with special guest Oscar D'Leon, one of the biggest salsa-stars alive.  This album was nominated for a 'Premio Shock', Colombia's most important music-award.

Maite Hontele was crowned 'Artist of the year 2013' by Colombia's public radio.

In 2014 Maite so far has toured Brasil, Holland and Curaao. Next tours to follow: Mexico, Cuba, North Sea Jazz festival, Aruba, and more to be confirmed.
