Makeshift Policy

BandAlternativePunk

We are a band that rocks hard and we love what we do. We are influenced by bands such as thrice, goldfinger, funeral for a friend, etc. We take pride in having a unique sound, yet not so unique you can't enjoy listening.

Biography

Makeshift Policy originated from a high school in Ancaster, Ontario. They formed the band in 2002 and with the original members: Dennis, Eric, and Grant. During the first few months, many songs were written, of which very few actually made it into a recording. In 2003, the band decided to record a demo, so they contacted a former teacher and good friend to help them out. Out of the many songs written, seven songs were recorded onto the first EP aptly entitled 'the ep', which was released in april of 2004.
After a few months, and more new material, makeshift entered a battle of the bands in Brantford. They were fortunate enough to win first prize of recording an EP at A.D.S. Productions. This EP, 'At The Strike Of A Match', was released on January 21st 2005.
Sometime after the CD release and playing these new songs at shows, more songs were written and it was decided that they needed a fuller sound on stage. Grant left the bass to play lead guitar, which left a gap to be filled. After playing with some talented bass players, Tisch was the one who eventually stuck. Coinsidently, he came from the same high school; although he is a couple years younger.
Since having landed a bass player, new songs are consistently being written and previewed at shows. In March 2006 we recorded a three song demo. Soon after, we signed with an indie label out of the UK -- Lapesadilla Records, with who we just released another three song demo on November 27,2006.
We'd like to thank everyone who has supported the us and who continues to support. See you around.

Lyrics

The Candidate

Written By: Makeshift Policy

Throw your fists up in the air
Trade a world that’s based on lobbying, elected sin, we see…
It’s starting to cave in
Against the union we will stand
But don’t let faith get out of hand
As we sing ‘God keep our land’
--
Have our ethics changed? Or formulated shame?
We’ve drawn a line between, but still, we are the ones to blame
And we see…
--
Your ignorance is trademarked with each breath
And even though you need a saviour
You tie the noose tighter around your neck
I can barely see you cause you’ve never touched the ground
Still you throw your weight and seal your fate
You hang, without ever looking down
--
Spark our hearts and burn our flag
The smoke will rise up from the ashes in which this country was made
To us all, as one we fall
Cremate our passions so we can’t feel anything at all
Our nation’s built it’s trust…IN US
See…
--
Your ignorance is trademarked with each breath
And even though you need a saviour
You tie the noose tighter around your neck
I can barely see you cause you’ve never touched the ground
Still you throw your weight and seal your fate
You hang, without ever looking down
--
Without ever looking down…without ever looking down…(I can barely see you)…without ever looking down…(I can barely see you)…without ever looking down

Fight or Flight

Written By: Makeshift Policy

Is it the fate of all that we will follow?
These are the moments that we live for
We are at the waters edge
Take my hand
Does this beauty lie in failure?
How much faith do we have left?
--
In this sea of red
Where does the day end and where does the night begin?
Why should we believe that we can be saved?
With no differentiation there is no reason for grace
--
As men stand in chains with hate in their eyes
Pull back the trigger, throw the blindfolds aside
Our martyrs will see just who stands behind these lines
With pistols drawn up from our sides
--
Is there hope, for the ones who were never found?
Or will history rewrite itself?
Do we stare through our blessings,
Into the greater ocean of doubt?
Are we pure? Or unfaithful?
Disgraced by the words in our mouth
--
And we see
The horizon, it darkens, as ships sail to conquer
Their shadows grow larger, already we’ve raised the white flag
And we know that these rags that we hold have been ripped from the clothes of our brothers who fell to the waves
Can we run from…our saviours?
Drain our hearts for vanity lies in the pain…always…inspired
--
We hold back the rose
With hearts unified
We will wage war

Let The Dead Bury Their Own Dead

Written By: Makeshift Policy

And we see the tree line while we sleep
And we’ve been, beyond them in our dreams
Although we know, it may take our lives to breathe…
A breath that’s free…
And then to dust again we’ll be
Into the sea
As we’re buried underneath
---
If tomorrow never breaks, tonight we leave
I’m running faster towards the moon that breaks the night
We’ll ride the tide, hold my breath and close my eyes
I’ve never wanted more than this
My love I’ll see you…
With the hope, I will go, thru the wall, under lines

And we know…we might never make the gate
And we know…one shot could seal our fate
And if we leave tomorrow…it’s too late
And if we leave tomorrow…we’re adding insult to injury
If we leave…
Not if we leave…
We leave tonight.
---
If tomorrow never breaks, my dear, you scream, I’ll never see you
And this night I let you die, torn up inside, I can’t promise I’ll survive
I love you more than life itself that’s why I’m leaving
And just know, hold fast hope, close your eyes, unlock the door

I’ll be home…tonight
As I run the night fades into light
Now on my knees my wound drips new life
With one last breath I look towards the sky…then I die
And we know
