Bio

“ I use to roll up, This is a hold up,
Ain’t nothin’ funny, Stop smilin’
But still don’t nothin’ move but the money…”
RAKIM - PAID IN FULL

That officially started it all in the mind of a young boy sitting in the back seat of his stepfather’s car on a trip to the East Coast…the birthplace of HIP HOP. A place he would become familiar with, in fact spend most of his years growing up. Stability was never consistent for his family and their constant moving kept him fighting because he was always the "new" kid. There was one thing that stayed familiar in his life and it was Hip Hop. It never left or moved away. It carried him through the rough times and allowed him to escape his volatile reality. A bond had been cemented and perfected to what you witness today.

MAK LEGEND’s style put into words would be like fusing together the essence of Lauryn Hill, Arrested Development & Musiq Soulchild with the funk of George Clinton & Parliament and the lyrical delivery and swagger equivalent to that of any of today's standard of seasoned Emcees.

THE JOURNEY....

Affectionately known as the “Professor” at the tender age of five, he was a child beyond his years. Being a witness to his mothers’ struggling & trying to make ends meet was the motivation in his quest to always find ways of making money. He hustled as often as he could doing odd jobs, sometimes taking that money he made to give to his Mom for bus fare.

He eventually gravitated to the streets and bonded with others that were just like him – a product of a single parent household with no guidance and support. His mother out of fear for her son's life, sent him off to Baltimore at the age of 16 believing that she could keep him away from Chicago gang life. Although he was in a new enviroment, he faced more hardships and even ended up homeless. Walking the streets of Baltimore he made one of the most important decisions of his life. To never rely on anyone ever again and the only way he knew how to make that a reality was through Hip Hop. Hip Hop was his only promise of hope, as it was for many youths in the ghetto, to have a way out of the poverty that seemed endless. From the day he met longtime friend YAK and formed his first group RAISED IN POVERTY, the push for success was in constant motion. Over the years, and countless tracks later, MAK has still sought to succeed in the Rap game. Yet instead of it just being about the money, it has now grown into a purpose.

THE MISSION...

Mak's new found purpose is to change the mindset of generations mislead and to help breakdown racial, spiritual and economic barriers set in society. His desire to share his testimony to lost souls who are looking to validate their existence with worldly possessions which can only lead to imprisonment, addiction or death.

Coming from the heavily gang populated streets of Chicago to Baltimore; he brings his tale of the two cities to show the trials and tribulations most minority males suffer. But instead of glorifying the struggle, he is here to educate those to either avoid it altogether or how to maneuver through it without losing yourself.

Now with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ in his heart, he is ready to share with everyone the changes that have been happening in his life prompting him to become a better man, son, father, brother and friend. His growth is admirable and his testimony is ever-changing...his only request is for you to JUST LISTEN.
