Bio

Natural gifts of artistic flare are rarely combined into one and allowed such vivid expressions of individuality as with the many components of Malachi’s various presentations. Behind a lion driven force to live out his dreams, lies the serene humility of a unique and ubiquitous individual. Malachi has allowed art for the sake of art to be his guiding light. Whether it is acting, writing, producing, speaking, or performing he delivers the way Rakim did with Hip Hop, the way Miles did with Jazz, the way Donny did with Soul, skillful, smooth, and influential.

‘I prophesize of one day making it to the big city, not just going into but staying into-a rhythm that translates like a rhyme that rings with metaphors of neon lights and organized chaos-all the while embarking on peace.’

With an immeasurable love for a sometimes spiritually draining industry, Malachi still found peace in it all by holding it down as host and producer of “The Nu Soul Lounge” on XM Satellite Radio (Channel 61 The Flow.) Despite the music industry’s tainted perception of what songs should get played “The Nu Soul Lounge” paid homage to Soul Music, Spoken Word, and Conscience Hip-Hop. Some of the artists that could have been heard on “The Nu Soul Lounge” ranged from singer India.Arie to emcee Mos Def to Poet Saul Williams, Common, Lauryn Hill, and Erykah Badu to name others. With XM Satellite’s Radio being so unconventional and poetry/spoken word increasing in popularity Malachi created “FreeStyle Friday’s”, an open mic cipher on XM’s The Power (Channel 169), the first 24 hour black talk channel in the nation.

An open supporter of Theatre and Hip-Hop, Malachi hosted the Hip-Hop Theatre and Spoken Word Festival sponsored by The New York and DC Arts Commissions. The festival featured the nation’s top poets including, poets from Def Poetry Jam.

Although Malachi is a supporter of the arts he says ‘don’t get it twisted, my first love is performing in the arts.’ Malachi is an acclaimed lyricist and has received accolades from Grammy winner, India. Arie who commented, “Clever work, keep on doing it Sun. Let’s see how much power word really has. Time to speak beauty into existence.” RollingOut Magazine also commented “Malachi spits with the nimbleness of the illest emcee.” And from Jessica Care Moore, Apollo Theatre Legend, acclaimed poet and founder of Moore Black Press, lends “he got skills, beautiful work.” Malachi has been featured in several publications including RollingOut Magazine and The Washington Post as they described him as “helping celebrate energies in Hip-Hop and beyond.” Malachi has also graced numerous television and radio shows with his performances including MHZ “Urban”, “The Poets’Joint” and “8101” Television Shows (with Michel Wright), “The Cypher’s Poetry Corner”, “Joe’s Place” with Joe Gorham on WHUR 96.3FM in Washington, DC, “Love Talk and Slow Jams” with Justine Love on WPGC 95.5FM also in D.C., WBLS 107.5 “The Wendy Williams Experience”, The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and the legendary Apollo Theatre. Malachi has several up and coming performances including a live performance on BET J "Soul Sessions" and Music Choice will be spinning his Hip Hop Spoken Word inspired track "Rock Star Spiritualist" in heavy rotation by the time you read this.

There are many music artists who venture into acting and there are many actors who venture into music. However, there are not too many who completely amazes you in both realms; Malachi is one who does just that! With his first independent feature film lead role wrapping up this fall, in the spiritual sci-fi based movie "Scrolls: The Book of Life", Malachi is sure to create a buzz in the film festivals and among the industry for his portrayal of an enlightened West Indian playboy who discovers that after the death of the love of his life, he has to search for more of a reason to live than just money. The film is slated for a Spring 2007 release.

Malachi love for lyricism and music has led him into freestyle ciphers with The Nappy Roots, leaving Scales and R. Clutch of The Nappy Roots to say that "he has food for thought." As well as Eve and Beanie Man, leaving Beanie Man to say hot, hot! hot!! More fire! And even Hip Hop pioneer Dougie E. Fresh made it known that Malachi has a gift, "hot, you definitely need to do something with that!" With such a welcoming response from artists he respect, Malachi has been prompted into working on his CD, due out Spring 2008 entitled "The Communication Specialist" which is a fusion of the word, the sound, and the soul, which he expresses "will be a piece of work that will enable me to smile and be proud to pop it in."

With an ongoing effort to make a note-able impact on the artistic community, Malachi has ventured into just about every facet of communicating, certainly living up to the title of his remarkable debut album "The Communication Specialist". Whether its radio, producing, poetry/spoken word, rhy
