Bio

The idea is simple. 5 different people. 5 different cities. 5 different influences…1 band. Malbec: the band attempting to create a revolution in modern pop music by adding sophistication and craft to our dying “pop entertainment” industry. They have made this possible through 4 key components that cumulated into success: a. melodically and harmonically driven music, b. Rap/Hip-Hop oriented beats and foundations c. strong songwriting, and d. passion, drive, and genuine adoration of music itself. Unlike most multi-influenced bands, Malbec has found a way to combine styles and genres of music that surprisingly compliment themselves without becoming trite. They float sweet ethereal melodies over pounding 808 bass kicks and nurse thick creamy bass lines through lucid Brit pop guitar parts. It is the diversity of the band’s members that allows for such a cornucopia to exist. Malbec consists of Sidney Miller [LA born-Laptopist-Keyboardist-Producer/Beat Maker for Soul Diggaz Productions out of Jersey], Sam Barbera [Indianapolis born-Bassist-Songwriter], Nick Ruth [Berkeley born-Guitarist-Backing Vocalist-Songwriter-ex-Classical Guitarist-Oberlin Conservatory Grad], Pablo Signori [Lead Vocalist, Guitarist-Songwriter-Lyricist -BeatMaker-ex-Bellwether Front Man (Anechoic Records)-ex-Classical Guitarist-Indiana School of Music Grad], and Mark Pontius [Drummer-Beat Maker-Editor-Surfer Extraordinaire]. It is through awareness, hard work, dedication, skill, talent, and fans that Malbec has reached a level of respect amongst their peers for which they are most grateful. They are sponsored by both Windigo International (Los Angeles), and WE Clothing (Stockholm) companies. Their songs have been featured in both film and television. “Solstice,” recorded/produced by Tony Fagenson [ex-Drummer of EVE 6, son of mega-producer Don WAS] and Gabe Witcher [world reknown musician and virtuoso fiddle player, tour musician with Beck, Willie Nelson, Eve 6, and Leann Womack] in the summer of 2004 was featured in the Bravo mini-series success “Long Way Around” with Ewan McGregor and the Fox documentary film “Flight of the Phoenix”. They have performed all over Los Angeles including Viper Room, Troubador, 1650, House of Blues, King King, Key Club, Lather, Dragon Fly as well as Joe’ Pub-New York, The Basement -Indianapolis and Paycheck’s-Detroit, often times selling out shows. Currently the band plans on recording in the Spring, 2005 and is planning a full West Coast Tour to follow. Malbec strives to restore the credibility and tradition of musicians and music today by leading a coup d’état in today’s music industry.
