Bio

MALCOLM PARSON continues to search for the right texture in his latest project, "Far From Home," and breaks into the realm of an artist by blending the essence of jazz, folk, and bluegrass into one captivating sound. Featuring Andrew Sheron on mandolin/guitar and Sam Weber on upright bass, "Far From Home" dismantles the separation of musical languages while infusing the trials and tribulations of an artist who, on the brink of progress, continues to battle with the change of their external environment and circumstances. "I wanted to create a project that would properly represent how I truly felt within," says Malcolm, "so it took me a few months to actually compose because I had to live and gather an abundant amount of experiences that I can communicate to the world".

Since the release of his first solo cello EP "ANTMY", which is an acronym for anatomy, Malcolm's passion for his compositions on "Far From Home" are stirring, eclectic, tranquil yet uplifting. Telling the story of a lonesome artist who must continue to sacrifice in order to achieve their aspirations, "Lonely Road" finishes with a wild free improvisation that shows the artists' frustration with the road traveled. "Lord of The Flies" brings the pulse of Malcolm's latest stomping grounds, New York City, with progressive pace and intensity while "Solitude" shows his audience his struggles with contemplation by taking the listener on a journey from subtle beginnings to a fiery exchange of thoughts between each musician.

"It's hard being an artist and constantly having to deal with leaving your place of comfort. At times, I too would love to have a since of security but I must understand that it comes from within. And from within, I must believe whole-heartdly and write it down in my form of artistry, Music." Filled with constant highs, lows, leaps, and transitions, "Far From Home" has the intensity and fire that will keep every listener on edge.

Recently, Malcolm Parson has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center as apart of Paquito D'Rivera's "Bird With Strings" as well as a featured artist at Blue Note Jazz Club's "Late Night Groove Series". Also, he's had the honor to share the stage with legends such as Ron Carter, Dave Liebman, Christian Howes, Burt Bacharach, Terri Lynn Carrignton, Eugene Friesen, and Patrice Rushen to name a few.

A native of New Orleans, La, Malcolm was born into a musical family and began studying the violin at the age of 8 before moving to the cello the same year. He recieved his first personal violin as a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Foundation Inc "Golden Horn Award" that recognized and awarded talented aspiring young musicians. Upon relocating to Atlanta, Ga, he was selected to participate in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra "Talent Development Program," which allowed him to study with ASO's Karen Freer. Through this opportunity, he was awarded his first personal cello from The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), won the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and was a featured soloist at the National Black Arts Festival "Classics From The Next Generation" and Andre Watts' "5oth Birthday Celebration". In 2007, he recieved a Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music as well as a scholarship award from the Atlanta Federation of Musicians, Local 148-462.
