Bio
Malek Hawkins (born on December 4, 1997) is a rapper, singer and songwriter from the South Bronx in New York City.
Performing under the moniker of Gold'n Buddha, Hawkins has been exploring different elements, emotions and ideas with every succeeding song produced from his camp.
Buddha, nicknamed “Goldie”, had started at a young age writing poetry and engaging in various forms of classic and contemporary literature, even being involved in Oprah Winfrey’s renowned Book Club as a child. Among his peers, he was always recognized as a talented lyricist. In high school, he allegedly would battle other students in his free time.
In 2015 Buddha released his first single on his SoundCloud account, entitled Man’s World, backed by a vibrant James Brown sample and wordplay worth double takes.
After following up with several songs investigating the facets of bad relationships, love, family, and himself, Buddha released his debut mixtape the same year.
The 7-track project called An Animal’s Struggle with Self Love delves within the mind of a survivor hardened by the harshness of life who peels back the layers of his own vulnerability.
After continuing to record and release several singles, Goldie has recently dropped the second single for his new sophomore mixtape Rose Gold. Halo Grass, featuring fellow New Yorker Gene Childs, is a beautifully-woven, emotionally charged composition implemented with touching melodies and meaningful lines of self-worth that you can’t help but hear yourself repeat.
