Taking their inspiration from the musical diversity found in numerous vintage recordings, the four musicians which make up Maliétès bring together in the same repertory different types of music drawn from both sides of the Aegean Sea. The resolutely rebetiko tones of the accordion answer to the inflexions of an oud which evokes oriental Istanbul, the percussion carries the dance tunes or accompanies the sweet and plaintive monotonous chant of the tarhu, an instrument of contemporary design inspired by the early ottoman yayli tanbur.
