Malpais: "Ethereal and Stunning" - Omaha City Weekly
Malpais began as a writing project between Greg Loftis and Denver Dalley (Statistics, Desaparecidos) as an experiment in songwriting with no premeditated destination for the project. As time passed and the songs evolved, it became clear that the band needed to be rounded out. The band is formed using the most artistic and high caliber musician/writers that the Omaha underground possesses. The band includes Joshua Hendrickson (Prospect Avenue), Philip Reno (Civicminded), David Backhaus (Prospect Avenue), and Scott Evans (Old Boy Network).
It has been a good year for Malpais. Spending most of their time writing songs, recording with producer A.J. Mogis at A.R.C. Studios (owned by Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes), getting some spiritual guidance from Denver Dalley and Tim Kasher (who sings on Sentenced to Each Other) and even sharing the stage with Cursive and Blue October.
The future is very bright for a band that the literal spanish translation means Dark Country.
