Malvina Parade

BandPopRock

Poetical lyrics full of heart and honesty, accompanied by musical sophistication, Malvina Parade is a touching tribute to human resilience in the face of life's complications. The truism of their music will clutch onto your heartstrings and infiltrate your soul.

Biography

Josh Toyer started learning guitar in 2004, and started writing songs when he could string enough chords together. He first met Christian at high school and although they didn't know each other well, asked him to sing for his HSC music performance of Ben Folds Five's 'One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces'. Since then the two have become good friends, playing music together. Josh, who pens most of the lyrics and melodies, has developed his music over the past four years and draws influence from the slightly unusual combination of Crowded House, Something For Kate and The Whitlams, in particular the lyrical sophistication of these bands. His vocals are reminiscent of Paul Dempsey, and his music sounds like Pete Murray and Josh Pyke in the style of the indie genre. Christian is the main vocalist, and with his extensive history in singing in musicals, has developed into an accomplished singer. The combination of their styles results in Malvina Parade- a band that speaks universal truths that will reach into your mind.

Lyrics

Before These City Streets

Written By: J.Toyer

I stand in the city and scan the busy streets
And wonder about the appeal
The people push and pull with their priority
There’s a man over there waiting for something to steal

And they’re looking down their nose
They think they’re better than me
But the funny thing is
I’m thinking exactly the same thing

He talks about himself like I give a damn
And I just wish all of these dickheads would crawl back in their hole
Because it’s hard enough to walk into a place that I don’t know
Without strangers trying to tell me everything I’m doing wrong

And they’re looking down their nose
Thinking they’re better than me
But the funny thing is
I’m thinking exactly the same thing

Yeah, they’re looking down their nose
They think they’re so much better

But at home I can count the stars
In the sky on the darkest night
And I know what it’s like to feel the sun shine down
Without smoke putting up a fight

So I can find the joy from my own reserve
Knowing life is so much better where the nature is not curbed
And I’ve seen the greenest grass and I’ve touched the softest life
Without standing in the presence of an explanation sign

Say No More

Written By: J.Toyer

I need an entrance, I feel like a contest
To raise itself out of the mire
But nobody’s taking another step forward
Cause there’s too much at stake
We’ve fooled everyone else into thinking that we know
What’s going on ourselves
But the lines have been drawn that just cannot be crossed
Til someone makes up their mind

We sit on the fence til the end of time
And lose ourselves in every desire
Confusing the game with hands of love
But wanting you somehow is not enough

We’re playing on every fear we can think of
This side of the sun
We’ll relapse into the arms of comfort
And look the other way
You’re dreaming of silence and praying for solace
To come and change the day
But the lines have been drawn and they cannot be crossed
Til you make up your mind

I’ve said every word- I can say no more
It feels like an age since I’ve felt you inside
I’ve said every word- I can say no more
It feels like an age since I’ve felt you inside

Have I said too much?
The truth comes falling out

We sit on the fence til the end of time
And lose ourselves in every desire
Confusing the game with hands of love
But wanting you somehow is not enough

I’ve said every word- I can say no more
It feels like an age since I’ve felt you inside
I’ve said every word- I can say no more
It feels like an age since I’ve felt you inside

Yesterday

Written By: J.Toyer

There are only so many words I can say
Before I start to lose my breath and lose my way
There are only so many things you can counter with
Before you start to repeat yourself again
And so we fall upon our swords and begin to ask
Just when it was that we saw each other last
Hiding ourselves underneath our arguments…

Yesterday seems to be a year away
When I think of how I loved you more than anything
And we sat in awe and watched as all the seasons changed
We saw it all flash before our eyes

Such a stony set of eyes greet each other
As if the warmth was never there
And now the only yesterday we can remember
Is fading so fast and leaving us just a little more bare
So we sit and study ourselves to try and find the truth
Because we know it’s hiding itself from us
Hiding underneath our arguments…

Yesterday seems to be a year away
When I think of how I loved you more than anything
And we sat in awe and watched as all the seasons passed
We saw it all flash before our eyes
And we couldn’t do anything…

All In A Day's Break

Written By: J.Toyer

Such a lazy day could never be replaced by anything
Other than what we shared
From the moment I woke up next to you I felt
Together we could make it

We stood upon the beach skimming those stones
And the wind took our breaths away
And we held each other so close
All, all in a day’s break

We heard the music of cicadas through our day
So happy to sing for us
And with a lighthouse there guiding us the way I knew
That we could never be lost

We sat upon the stairs staring at the shore
And we felt the sand beneath our feet
And by night time we were watching the stars
All in a day’s break
All in a day’s break

And I know, I know it was no dream
I’ve all these things to remind me
Of all the joy that we had
All in a day’s break

Living Blind

Written By: J.Toyer

An age of hope is washed away
With a single word
There’s no crowd to bear my pain
But I’m down here on my knees
Waiting for my blood to run again

Her sea of grace
Has always lived to wash me clean
To run me dry
I’m living on empty words

The fire inside her eyes to burn but to never shine
And careless words of beauty glow with the brightest light
The seeing eye can barely watch a hope so falsely inspired

Her name’s spelt out everywhere
I look in shades of burgundy
And tears of pain that won’t bide
But I’m down here on my knees
Waiting to be broken again

The fire inside her eyes to burn but to never shine
And careless words of beauty glow with the brightest light
The seeing eye can barely watch a hope so falsely inspired
I’m living blind

Her sea of grace has always lived
To wash me clean, to run me dry
I’m living on her sympathy
Her empty words

The fire inside her eyes to burn but to never shine
And careless words of beauty glow with the brightest light
The seeing eye can barely watch a hope so falsely inspired

The fire inside her eyes to burn but to never shine
And careless words of beauty glow with the brightest light
The shadow of regret lingers forever in my mind

Farewell To The World

Written By: J.Toyer

The rain that falls can only delay an inevitable truth
Three restless souls with three different paths to choose
The white arches are bridged by an endless sea

Stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade
Stand on the steps while a million hearts break

Careless melodies play out over the waiting
We listen once more to the words we all wish we had made
The city stands still for an hour or two

Stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade
Stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade away

No justice is made to the legend that ends tonight

We stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade
Stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade

We stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade
Stand on the steps while a million hearts break
Together we’re watching a crowded house fade away

Pieces Of Kate

Written By: J.Toyer

She comes around in the afternoon
With a glimmer in her eyes
And she speaks words that harmonise with the wind
All about the wonders of space and time
Then disappears

I can’t help just where my dreams will run
But they run to her always
The sky will tear and clouds will fall at our feet
But the pieces of her will still remain

She lives a lifetime away
But her thoughts are still here with me
She’s a walking path of contradictions
Just waiting to be found
And it’s hard to recognise the noise of the world breathing
Her voice is in the air now
Her voice is in the air now

I can’t tell just where my dreams will run
And they run to her always
The sky will fall and clouds will burn at our feet
But the pieces of her will still remain

The pieces of Kate

Fountains of innocence
And her love burns like energy
And there’s not enough pieces of Kate

Only In My Dreams

Written By: J.Toyer

As I watch the crowded room of squares
Gathering secrets, pretending to care
The darkness closes in again
On a cluster of lies and façades

Now I wish you were here with me
Instead of only in my dreams

Somewhere in the corner of a room
Down a hallway in the back of my mind
A picture of you flickers like a screen
Watched by a crowd of pretentiousness

Now I wish you were here with me
Instead of only in my dreams

You seem further way than infinity
Imaginating a reality

Now I wish you were here
Now I wish you were here
