Carmen Gutierrez, aka MAMA CROW is truly a rare bird.
A New York native and East Bay transplant, this self-taught guitarist and soulful songstress evokes listeners on a deep, soul level. Her sound is a mix of rhythmic, funky finger picking and string slapping, guttural blues belts and quick lyrical flow with insidious phrasing.
Writing songs since age 7 and keeping a journal since age 5, MAMA CROW has always had the urge to write and document her life experiences. This 20 smthng year old woman has performed and recorded all over the country, cultivating and crafting her niche- defining her “soundtruth” through songwriting and singing.
Influences vary from life experiences, dreams and people watching. Mama Crow grew up listening to The Beastie Boys, Bjork, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Jill Scott, Nike Drake, Pink Floyd, Fiona Apple, Lauryn Hill, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, The Roots, Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, Eryka Badu and more...
She has always had a fascination with magic and live performance. She would dance to marching bands and read books about Harry Houdini and Josephine Baker.
MAMA CROW has played with many amazing musicians such as Chris Berry Trio w/ Michael Kang from String Cheese Incident, Fantuzzi, LUMINARIES, Cipes & The People, FANTUZZI, Izabella, Antioquia, SaraTone, Yaqueline Deyabu from Cuba, Band of Mystics, Lila Rose, 2Adam12.
She has opened for very well known artists such as Youssoupha Sidibe, SAMBADA, DUSU, Antioquia, The Loyd Family Players, Alma Desnuda Jah Levi, LYNX & JANOVER, SoulEye, Tina Malia, Talyor MaidenSpace, Goddess Alchemy Project, Sonia and DisappearFear and many more. Alex Grey and his wife Allison painted live during a musical performance featuring MAMA CROW.
Mama C has toured and built a strong fan base along west and east coast. She has played in many well-known venues in the Bay Area of California, her home base.
She continues to spread her music world wide and performs live where ever she is- building her fan base on a global/local scale.
