Mamakitty Southwood

Mamakitty Southwood

BandRockAmericana

A soulful breed of bluesy folk rock mixed with Americana, spiked by soaring vocals and flavored by a variety of influences.

Biography

Mamakitty Southwood came together out of the shared love for a good song, driven by the lyrics and vocals of songwriters Kim Weber and Mark DeWitt. You can view live video at this website address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkyAPJ3VlYw or through our myspace: www.myspace.com/mamakittysouthwood.
Kim Weber has been writing since before she can remember and performing since she was 29 years old, and Mark DeWitt, Tony Cooper, Jody Wright and Ed Decker have been making their magic since before they could walk......:) Mamakitty Southwood has been performing as a band since August, 2008. Their flexibility lies in the ability to play as a full 5 piece or as an acoustic duo or trio. They have performed for groups as large as Fender's Den Radio's audience and the Heartland Festival's attendees to groups as intimate as a few wanderers on Bardstown Road

Lyrics

Decision

Written By: Kim Swickard

It’s my decision
To avoid a collision with you
And I’m going outside to get some air
Some rain and lightning too
I’ll do whatever it takes to avoid Running into you

You’re like a cyclone
Everybody sucked up in your path
And I don’t want to stick around Witness your aftermath
Because they’re laughing blind and Wrapped around your finger

They’re laughing blind and Wrapped around your finger

Cactus Annie

Written By: Kim Swickard

Conversations with myself
We talk about each other as if we were someone else
With friends like this who needs enemies?
Close relations, too blind to disbelieve
Too blind to disbelieve

Cactus Annie, she lives down the street
Why can’t you be more like her, why must you make me envy
She can ride the rodeo, never get burned
She’s got nine lives, why can’t you learn?

Oh why can’t you learn?

I need perspective, I need my sense of place
But I won’t find it by lookin at my own face
Too many secrets, too many shadows there
I need a mountain of unshakeable prayer
Unshakeable prayer….

Eddy

Written By: Kim Swickard

I have a black dog
and she smiles all the time
Often we walk in the sun
And we sit and I marvel
and I look at this life
This life and just what has begun

The man I’ve been kissing,
his eyes have long lashes
Blue eyes, they’re patient,
they’re young
And the black dog she loves him, her tail beats its own coded version of what has begun
Chorus
What's begun is not a surprise
It’s the earth turn that makes the sun rise
The twist of an eddy that’s wise
Wiser than I, wise as the sky

Oh I’ve heard life is a river,
that flows to the sea,
a twisting sweet ribbon of time
And if life is a river,
I can only float down it,
no pushing no pulling, just rhyme
The black dog loves the water,
she dances all through it
She dances and smiles and shines
And we sit and I marvel,
and I look at this life,
this life and just what intertwines

Chorus

I have a black dog and she smiles all the time
Often we walk in the sun
And we sit and I marvel
and I look at this life
This life and just what has begun
The man I’ve been kissing,
his eyes have long lashes
Blue eyes, they’re patient,
they’re young

And the black dog she loves him, her tail beats its own code,
down this sweet ribbon of time…..
