Bio

Mammút is an Icelandic band, formed in December 2003. The band then consisted of 2 boys and 3 girls, aged 14-16.

A few months after the formation Mammút won the Icelandic Battle of the Bands, having only written 3 songs in total.
In the beginning of April 2006 Mammút released it’s first LP album with Smekkleysa record label. The album got good reviews and it’s first single, Thorkell, hit #1 at the hit list at radio station “X-id 977” in Iceland.

Later that year Mammút played a breakthrough gig at the Iceland Airwaves festival.

The gig led to articles and reviews being written by many different people including David Fricke at the Rolling Stone Magazine calling Mammút “A really good band” , Music Week said it was “a band to look out for in the future” and Playlouder.com described the band as “Incredible”.

Late August 2008 Mammút released through Record Records it’s second album, Karkari, to great response.

The first 4 singles, Svefnsykt, Geimthrá, Raudilaekur and Gun all hit #1 in Icelandic radio and Svefnsykt was the 4th most played song in 2008 at the radio station X-id 977 (Iceland’s only rock station).

Karkari was chosen the 5th best album of the year in Iceland’s most read newspaper, Fréttabladid.

The band was nominated for the best album (Karkari) and best singer (Kata) at the Icelandic Music Awards 2009.
Mammút also got the Kraumur Award, Karkari being awarded as one of the 6 best albums of the year in Iceland.

Mammút did an 18 gig Europe tour in November 2009 playing in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden, to follow the release of Karkari in Germany through Rough Trade/Rocket Girl.

The band has also played various festivals around the world such as SXSW in Austin Texas, Bygdalarm in Norway, In the City in Manchester and supported the Belgian rockers dEUS both in Iceland and Germany.
Mammút is now ready to go abroad and conquer the world with their music.
