Bio

Arising from the cultural and musical melting pot that is South Louisiana, Mangata carves a sound distinctly their own. Just like the region that brought them together, Mangata's sound is one of converging flavors and backgrounds that seeks to defy genres, creating a kaleidoscope of indie, post-rock, and jazz with progressive song structures.
What emerged from a desire for an aggressive and heavy style of music between front-woman Hannah Gilley and drummer Jason Daniels, became transformed into a complex and layered sound as Ryan LaFleur and Gabe McCassey joined on guitar, bringing their penchant for experimental and progressive music into the fold. Derek Stanford joined on bass, adding an infectious sense of groove that drives the music. Mangata's music finds room for driving rhythm and rock sensibility to sit side-by-side with jazzy chords and textural guitar.
Mangata released their debut EP entitled Vices to Spotify, iTunes, Amazon and most other major music streaming and distribution services on July 8th, 2015, as well as their sophomore EP Hososhi, on January 26, 2018. Mangata has seen rotation on local radio stations Planet Radio 105.1 KFTE, 106.3 Radio Lafayette KYMK, and performed live on 90.1 Houston Pacifica KPFT. The members' varying musical backgrounds get equal time to shine in their songs. Throughout their catalogue there is a sonic ebb and flow which is accentuated by Mangata's dynamic live performances.
