“Manifest Frequency’s balanced blend of rock and trip-hop grabbed the attention of this reviewer as well as the audience from the start of the first song until the end of their set. It’s amazing how so much music comes from these two women on stage. It’s mesmerizing and memorable.”

"Ladyfest South 2004"

November 5, 2004

Manifest Frequency’s lead singer Dawn Cook’s high vibrato vocals are reminiscent of Cooper Seay (Ellen James Society) juxtaposed against a triphop-techno-funk fusion. With Gara Coffey on drums, the Atlanta duo’s sound includes live looping of bass and guitar. Cook ‘went to church’ as she gave light, political banter absconding the recent election’s results. She ended with a bluesy tune that was like Janis minus the raspiness.

"Delightful Frequency with Manifest Frequency & Aerial2012"

January 19, 2006

Manifest Frequency’s set last night at Apache Café with Aerial2012 was great! Because it was my first time to see them live, I don't know the comparison, but the new edition of Michael Levine exploded with promise of a new day Dawning. There was a really powerful interplay between drums and bass, and his guitar work was the icing on Dawn’s storytelling cake. Vocals channeled Anne Wilson laced with Portishead sensibilities. Ambient melodies, interwoven with savage electric guitar riffs, provided unexpected delight in the electronic environment. Other times, smooth Trip Hop rhythms moved listeners closer and closer toward the delightful source. I WILL see them again.

"The Real Deal in Atlanta..Finally"

September 24, 2006
There's no doubt that Manifest Frequency is a sign of good things to come for the Atlanta music scene. Beyond just having the most addictive songs I've heard in a long time, Dawn Cook's charisma and sex appeal on stage could keep you coming back for more even if she couldn't play or sing - which she can and then some. There's no doubt that I'll be keeping my eye on this artist and hoping that everyone else will too. You won't be disappointed.
Manifest Frequency can next be seen at Eddie's Attic for an "unplugged" performance October 10. - The Sunday Paper

Bio

Manifest Frequency'smusic is a TripHypnotic fusion of classic-rock influenced melodies with bass driven hooks, downbeat rhythms, and ambient, ethereal vocals. The debut album, The Deconstruction of Dr. Dawn, takes you from vulnerable introspection to courageous defiance while the coolest of grooves keeps you hanging on until the last note.

MFQ is the brain-child of Dawn Cook (Dr. Dawn). While in Atlanta, GA, she created a strong collective of like-minded, "on-call" musicians when a full band performance was demanded! The debut CD reflects this collaborative effort.

In 2008, the co-owner (Christine Solly) of Dawn's publishing company, Frequency Rising Records, officially joined Dawn as a performing member of Manifest Frequency.

When playing live, the creative use of real time recording with live looping, MIDI Instrumentation & Sequencing, visual effects, and strong musician-ship brings MFQ to life. Although, depending on the venue, they may simply play acoustic guitar/piano & bass with alternative song arrangements. At present, the duo performs both a "fully loaded" set including versions heard on the CD & an electronica-acoutic set, plus new selections to be featured on the next MFQ release.

Until 2007, Dr. Dawn worked as both a full-time psychologist and professional musician. Despite her taxing schedule, she managed to gain national attention playing festivals such as SXSW, D-Fest, Atlantis Music Conference, Ladyfest South, Hyperactive Music Fest and notable venues across the country.

However, after a life-changing diagnosis in January 2007 of Multiple Sclerosis, Dawn decided to pursue music with a single-minded focus and began to limit her practice to only special cases as a psychologist. There's nothing like being diagnosed with a deadly disease to wake you up to life! In January 2008, Dawn moved to NC to be with her family to help care for an elderly father in end stage cancer. During this "hiatus", she received a career threatening injury involving her left hand/arm & was unable to perform again until September. However, she used that time to work on writing/producing new music for MFQ & in developing the new show featuring MFQ as a duo. She also formed a collaborative partnership as a vocalist/arranger with a professional team of songwriters/composers. They are currently working on tracks for film/tv libraries.

Dawn coined her alter-ego name, Manifest Frequency, based on principles from Quantum Physic, and from her absolute belief in the healing power of connecting with others. Manifest Frequency is also dedication to the belief that we create our own realities based on the principle of "like attracts like". Thus, what we feel and what we believe, we receive. If we feel it, we can manifest it. A message of hope and belief in possibility pervades the music.

Manifest Frequency's music has drawn diverse fans from folk, alternative rock, jazz and triphop persuasions. Dawn received the 2005 Southern Voice Reader's Choice Award for Best Atlanta Female Musician and was the host coordinator for the 2005 Atlanta GoGirlsMusicFest.

Manifest Frequency's debut album , The Deconstruction of Dr. Dawn, is scheduled for official release February 2009 & is available on itunes, napster, rhapsody, eMusic, & Amazon.

Manifest Frequency is all about believing in a better day. It's about healing through music. Manifest Frequency is an open call to challenge the norm. It's an education. It's a challenge against mediocrity. And it's encouragement to all who have ever felt different and are tired of apologizing for it! It's also a message that sometimes the worst thing we think can happen ends up being the best thing – that sometimes it is necessary to fully become who one is supposed to be. It's a lesson in honesty and willingness to use the self as an example to help others.
