Bio

London’s own riposte to New York’s post-punk revival and the current crop of homegrown Strokes clones has arrived in the shape of Manner. At just three months old this snarling three piece has exploded onto the West London scene, supporting the likes of Ed Harcourt and The Magic Numbers at some of the most notorious underground gig nights around and making regular appearances in the bars of Portobello and Notting Hill.
Front man James McIrvine has been around for a while, playing his own stuff and doing studio work with dance acts like Free Form Five and Manner was born when he got together with in demand session drummer Chris Ryan. With the addition of Eric Leopold on bass the group was complete.
Between the three of them they’ve come up with something that’s much more than just stripped down garage rock. Drawing on the influences of everyone from Led Zeppelin and Radiohead via Elbow to Billy Cobham they’ve created a sound that is both aggressive and epic where Ryan’s thumping support provides a background to soaring vocals and intricate bass work. And the critics have taken note with glowing write ups in the Times and several music journals.
Inevitably West London is now proving too small as the band head across town, the new demo having opened up the doors of Hoxton and festivals of the East. Finally the rest of London gets a chance to see what they’ve been missing.
