At Lounge Lizards one Friday evening in January-sue Ford, the lead singer of Manwitch, screamed into the microphone as her Flying V guitar pitches from its strap. Prominently displayed on the strap's buckle was a skull and crossbones insignia decorated with shiny rhinestones.
This mixture of the sparkly and the dangerous coarsed through the night. The all-woman band played energetic, tough rock threaded with lyrics of empowerment and independence.

The oft-abused term "girl power" actually meant something tonight at the Outer Banks when applied to the one-two punch of the blistering all-female hard-rock outfits Hazard County Girls and Manwitch. The ladies in Manwitch opened up the festivities with their '70s-style hard rock. They came off as an even meaner, tougher version of the Runaways, with lead guitarist Laurie Shefsky playing the living hell out of her instrument. A sandwich is a sandwich, but a Manwitch is a meal!Recovering from Hurricane Katrina, the members of Manwitch have continued to rock it hard. Nirvana, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, L7 come to mind when listening to these ladies.
