On holiday in the south of Scotland, Maps saw a poster for a busking competition at the local folk festival. Entering with a toy guitar she had with her by chance, she took third place and went down a storm on the main stage that night.
Back home in Glasgow, inspired by this success, Maps set seriously to writing songs, something she had dabbling in over the years drumming and bass-playing in a number of indie and punk bands. Most notable of these is The Hermit Crabs, who’s debut album for Matinée Recordings was in part produced by Teenage Fanclub’s Francis McKee.
Now with an album’s worth of her own folk-pop songs about racing about in the city and running off to the hills, Maps is out and about singing. Which is what makes her happy.
