The artist Marbert Rocel is, in fact, three people wrapped up in one musically intense persona.
Producers Marcel Aue and Robert Krause, plus singer Antje Seifarth make up this tender trinity. All three hail from Erfurt in central Germany (the capital city of the Free State of Thuringia – not a lot of people know that!) and in ‘Speed Emotions’ they have created a finely tuned album that balances pop sensibilities and emotive house music perfectly.
Some tracks - like the incredibly catchy ‘Ttttictictac', and the four-to-the-floor
‘Beats Like Birds’ - really deserve some crossover attention. Others, such as the bastardised Beatles number ‘Eleanor Birdbath’ (continuing the ornithological theme) are almost too quirky for their own good.
At times ‘Speed Emotions’ delivers the kind of synthy soul/pop that you once associated with Roisin and Moloko, and at others it’s reminiscent of Matthew Herbert at his most angular. Neither makes for bad musical company, and this album should keep both pop and twisted electronica heads alike more than happy. (Dom Servini) - straightnochaser
Der Projektname dieses Thüringer Trios verheißt bereits vor dem ersten Hören Zauber, Duft und frankophilen Cinéma-Charme. Keine der Suggestionen wird entkräftet. Speed Emotions paart funky Kleinteiligkeit mit jazzy Housebeats à la Herbert und Dani Siciliano. Nur geht es hier noch vordergründiger fröhlich zu. Die zweite Nummer, der „Cornflakeboy“, ist dank Antje Seifarths lässig-lasziver Stimme ein Instant-Pop-Hit. Der allein erleichtert einem morgens garantiert das Aufstehen, so schwerelos wird die Suche nach dem süß romantischen Moment des gemeinsamen Frühstücks besungen. Neben Lieblichkeiten erdet das Album allezeit ein angefrickeltes House-Gerüst, das punktiert pumpt und seine Wirkung auf keinen Sneaker, keine Ballerina oder keinen Herrenschuh vermissen lassen dürfte. Zwingen im Club einsetzende Hi-Hats oder Bässe zu hochgeworfenen Armen, erreicht Marbert Rocel das Ziel durch eine Vielzahl melodiöser Wechsel und durch aromatische Zusätze für ein ausgiebiges Bad purer Gefühle. Sunny sound dots appeared all over the wide valley of Thuringia - the place where lush moving meadows outshines the ways of masters and servants. Everything began with two upright guys and a fly girl, who had a cup of milk and honey at the late club. By every slug they spread a warm and cosy beat over the folks hearts. Beats like birds flap their wings in the rhythm of warm house and understatement pop. For five years to date they keep to the big bang jigger kings with delight uptempo emo and frickelchick.
Recently Marbert Rocel plucked up their samples and sent good feeling track cards from their train station in Erfurt to their main station, Compost Records. United they are devising the new zippy album to bring your birdy hearts to fly.
