"The Marble Tea - I'm Batman EP"

"...I’m Batman dons the mask of our youthful fantasies, yet behind it exposes the secrets of our grown-up thoughts, needs, fears, weaknesses, and even primal adolescence through the addictive bliss of catchy pop. The Marble Tea is Narcotic Pop for the youthful soul of maturity." - IndepenDisc.com

"I'm Batman EP (The Marble Tea)"

"...precisely crafted musical gems that perfectly mirror the mood and subject of their lyrics, and all are sung by Berman in a somewhat deadpan vocal style that permits his wit and whimsy to consistently shine." - LuckyDogRadio.com

"The Marble Tea ~ I'm Batman"

"...Despite the lyrical themes, the album never feels kitschy or childish due to the soft and serious nature of the music. Ultimately it is a unique contrast that is the story of The Marble Tea. Although this contrast may alienate some, it should win longtime fans as well...." - Indie-Music.com

"The Marble Tea - I'm Batman"

"...unhateable innocent gentle pop. Perfect tunes and drive. Like Miracle Legion....XTC run over by the lo-fi folk bandwagon. Predictable until it isn't...I am laughing, but I am also enthralled. I want more of this good stuff!" - HybridMagazine.com

Bio

Children's songs for adults. That's how Knight Berman Jr once described the music he writes and records as the Marble Tea, but it doesn't tell the full story. Grown-up topics like hiding from the law, excruciating ennui, and impotence have all found their way into songs in some fashion or another, and his affirmation that "I haven't met a child yet that I could sit and have a smoke with" further distances us from that original statement.

Berman's I'm Batman EP was selected as CD of the Year for 2004 at IndepenDisc.com, and three of his recordings were featured in the toddler-friendly LittleWalks New York video. Along the way, he's contributed to a compilation of "tiny pop songs," tribute records to Richard Brautigan and the Jazz Butcher, and provided theme music for cartoons on the internet.

With the release of his Fantastic Day EP in 2006, Berman continues to examine the underlying connection between life's smallest things and the grander design behind it all through an unpretentious brand of indie pop.

So what does the music sound like? Comparisons to the Magnetic Fields, Jonathan Richman, Robyn Hitchcock, early Beck, the Kinks - even "a happy Lou Reed" - have all been made and may serve as a nice starting point.

He is currently working on numerous projects which are generally chronicled at the Marble Tea Webthing (www.marbletea.com), including the release of a freely downloadable song every month.
