Bio

Marc Berley’s music is gritty, melodic Alternative Rock that makes you scream “I love this song!” SKIP IT (2005), Marc’s debut EP, rocked 150+ college radio stations from New York to California. It even charted – an impressive debut for any unsigned singer-songwriter. KICK THE MACHINE, Marc’s new full-length CD, gives his growing fan-base even more to scream about.

KICK THE MACHINE offers up hit singles and mind-blowing jams, an exciting new artist and his smashing band. Released in October 2006, it charted on college radio its first week out. And it has been added at 200+ college and Triple A stations coast to coast. In January, Marc's songs "I Like You" and "Day Go By" appeared alongside songs by artists including The Killers, Ray LaMontagne, Mat Kearney, and Citizen Cope, on A Taste of Triple A, an 18-song compilation CD. "Marc Berley...embodies the no-holds-barred spirit and attitude of quintessential American rockers like Buddy Holly, Joey Ramone and early Tom Petty," says Jim Nelson of A Taste of Triple A. "The guitars are vibrant and out front....Marc's melodies are stellar."

"I wanted to get people jumping and feeling great, and to keep hitting repeat over and over again," says Marc. So he grabbed GRAMMY® winner John Seymour (U2, Dave Matthews, Santana) to produce KICK THE MACHINE. And he got super-drummer Kenny Aronoff (Avril Lavigne, The Smashing Pumpkins, Michelle Branch, Bon Jovi, etc.). “Nobody plays to the song like Kenny, and he just energizes everything way, way up,” says Marc.

Marc Berley's music is powerful, catchy, bold, and honest, full of feel-good grooves. His melodies are infectious, his rhythms are driving. His songs have an uncanny way of sounding new and original even while they have the feel of treasured classics from the first listening. Most of the time, Marc won’t remind you of anyone, but imagine Green Day meets Tom Petty with the wit of Elvis Costello and the nerve of Nirvana jangling and thrashing out melodies so unafraid of being beautiful.

Born in Brooklyn, Marc was clinging to the stereo speakers before he could walk, singing melodies and banging out beats. From the way audiences react to his music, it’s clear something fiery got into this New York City rocker. Marc sums things up this way: “Guitar lessons at six, a switch to drums, and back to guitar. And so it went. Car radio. Bands. A life loving songs.”

Song after great song, KICK THE MACHINE will go straight to your heart and stay in your head.

Marc and the band have just finished a regional tour of the northeast – from New England to Washington, DC. This summer they'll be rocking New York City with their two-month residency at Arlene's Grocery.
