Bio

At six years old, Brooklyn born, Marc Black, heard Elvis, started singing along, and hasn't stopped.

His journey has included his first band, the 'Blades of Grass' having a top forty hit. After college, he moved to Woodstock, NY where his band became a local arts institution, attracting musicians recognized as some of the best in the world.

He has since recorded more than a dozen CD's, first for RCA, Jubilee, ESP and then, as an independent. Among his releases, he's had a 'pick hit' in Billboard Magazine, and another was recognized as a 'minor masterpiece' by famed music producer, John Hammond Sr.

Moving to New York City, he won the American Library Association Award for Best Children's Album when he produced 'American Children'. The album featured performances by Rick Danko, John Sebastian, Taj Mahal, Peter Schikele (PDQ Bach), Maria Muldaur, and Richie Havens, among others.

Marc then entered the world of commercials and immediately had an international impact. His "How To Get It Done" campaign for AT&T altered the sound of underscoring with its modal music and layered sound design. He won the Mobius for Best Original Music.

Last February, ASCAP featured Marc in performance at the Sundance Film Festival. And just recently, he was all over the international news for a protest song he penned about Martha Stewart attempting to trademark the name of the town he resides in. The video of his performance has been viewed more than 32,000 times!

His recordings are getting noticed as well. His CD, Stroke of Genius, made him the number one selling artist on CDBaby.com a few months back...putting him on the Billboard Magazine "heat seekers" chart. This album has become an integral part of a documentary film of the same name. The film recently won a silver medal in the Park City Film Music Festival. Marc is currently touring from New York to California in support of this project.

His songs continue to get noticed. 'For A Little While' was recently selected as one of the top nominations for best 'Best Artist in Style-Folk by Meer Music-Fame Games. 'Lies in Red, White and Blue' has been in the top 50 on Neil Young's 'Living With War' site for more than a year. And his tune, "Ohh, I love My Coffee' has been causing quite a ripple since his performance at the International Folk Festival last February. The song has also been chosen to be in the mix of finalists at the Austin Songwriter's awards.

Altogether Black has created more than a dozen CD's that range in style from ambient/experimental, to roots psychedelic and folk. As Paul Winter put it, "His songs are great and his singing is superb."
