CHILDREN SONGS: Year of being camp Music Director led to a penchant for writing songs that kids love to sing and dance to, even if they might be also learning something. I'm a staunch believer that children are at least as smart as adults, and enjoy clever lyrics and catchy, interesting music at least as much. I have written songs for Music Pen, The Learning Company’s Reader Rabbit CDs and an online game for Ragu.
MUSICALS: “SUV: The Musical,” a collaboration with NYC journalist Gersh Kuntzman, turned American consumerism on its back. Songs dealt with the heavy romance between two crash-test dummies, the lure of the “New Model,” the “Bigger is Better” culture and the philosophy of a greedy oil mogul. Influences ranged from Rogers and Hammerstein to Tom Lehrer and Pete Townshend. I am currently working on “Gods on Earth,” a musical about super-heroes.
YOUNGSTER (ROCK/POP songwriting)
I’ve been writing songs and performing with the popular NYC-based power-pop band Youngster for the last several years. I like to write about relationships gone wrong (“Manipulator”) and right (“Unknown Place”), the American dream/nightmare (“No Toy Surprise”), and traumatic memories (“Circumcision Blues”).
