"Marc at the Handlebar"

Marc Higgins is one of the area's most prolific songwriters, and his steady-rolling band envelops his stirring baritone voice as they perform new cuts from the band's recently-released second album, "Slow Moving Train," a compelling and engaging follow-up to their critically-acclaimed 2006 release "Change is Good." - Tad Taylor/ Spartanburg Herald Journal

"Spartanburg Band Featured on WNCW-FM Podcast"

Beginning this month, public radio 88.7 WNCW-FM in Spindale, NC (97.3 in Greenville) is making available on its website podcasts of select performance/interview sessions by regional musicians recorded in the station's renowned Studio B. The first band to be featured is Spartanburg's Marc Higgins Band.

Public radio station 88.7 WNCW-FM, 97.3 in Greenville, has a reputation for playing a healthy amount of music from regional artists as part of its acclaimed eclectic mix. In addition to over the airwaves, that music mix has been available as a live stream at the station's website, www.wncw.org, for many years. Now, the best in regional music is taking its place as part of the station's select offering of podcasts as well. On Monday, July 10th, WNCW made available its first-ever "Local Color Spotlight" podcast, and the spotlight will be shining brightly all month on Spartanburg's Marc Higgins Band.

The online feature takes its name from "Local Color", WNCW's weekly regional showcase that airs Friday nights at 9 and Sunday evenings at 7. The Marc Higgins Band performed live on the show and was interviewed by host Kim Clark several months ago just as they were releasing the cd "Change Is Good." Clark, who is also producing the podcast, explained why she chose the band for the inaugural edition of "Local Color Spotlight": "Since a podcast is something that listeners download and can keep with them, I want to make sure that "Local Color Spotlight" features the absolute cream of regional talent, and that goes double for the first installment. Marc Higgins' music first caught my ear back in the late 1990s when he headed the group The Edmonds. When the cd "Change Is Good" by the Marc Higgins Band came into the station, I loved it immediately because of the tight musicianship and memorable tunes. I invited Marc and the group in for a live set, and they were terrific. I want to give more people a chance to hear that session."

"Local Color Spotlight" featuring The Marc Higgins Band will be available as a podcast on WNCW's website until August 8th, when it will be replaced by a live session from another artist or band from WNCW's listening area, which is comprised of Upstate South Carolina, Western North Carolina, and East Tennessee.

"Spartanburg's musicians set new standards for variety"

Marc Higgins Band, "Change Is Good"

An original Spartanburg act with musical momentum, Marc Higgins Band released its debut during the summer, striking powerfully with songs such as "Subway Song" and "I Know What You Know." But perhaps even more impressive is the group's rapid progression in performance and prolific production.

With vocalist and guitarist Marc Higgins at the helm, the group has practically completed its follow-up, "Slow Moving Train," due out as early as January, and sessions for that album reveal songs that not only assert the band's solidifying sonic identity, but also continue to unfold as-yet-unseen areas of lyrical and melodic explorations.
