Biography
Marcia Moon started her career as solo artist in 2000 in London, always driven by music, but never realizing that it was something she could do for a living, until London.
As a young girl she would memorize words from songs from her parents LP's, hits from radio stations and even ads. There was a lot of passion there.
Her first guitar had a little bird on the scratch plate and a blind man taught her her first chords, she was 11.
After school she went to University and participated in all kinds of musical events, she spent more time playing the guitar than studying and wrote her first song during that period.
Serenading under windows, singing on streets and shopping malls, collecting money for good causes was her first taste of performance, but her songwriting had depth and her cause was herself.
After three years in a hostel and one in Sunnyside she left SA for the adventure of her life, London. She traveled and explored and lived with musicians and wrote some more songs, and made the decision to return to SA as a Singer/Songwriter.
Cape Town came next and Stellenbosch, grinding away, trying to make a living, borrowing money and working odd jobs, but growing as a musician. Most of her performances was solo, but she had her first chance to work with a band and even though they were everything but tight, the crowd responded to them with enthusiasm.
She barely survived as a musician and had to return to Pretoria, repeating and reinventing the process.
By then she had written enough songs for a debut album and with the financial support from her parents recorded eleven songs for "a Gradual Awakening", an album full of stories and confessions, a lifeline.
Since then she's been promoting the album through regular gigs and the media with the "Obsession and Fear" music video, directed by her sister, a visual artist.
Marcia is currently recording her second album.
