"Jazz Singer a hit @ Ashman Court's "Crossings""

Of singing, said the Flint resident in a telephone interview this week. "I got it from watching a lot of music and variety shows. I was always fascinated by the beautiful sounds coming out of those ladies' mouths."
Then at age 12, Allen traveled to Boston, where she saw and heard a live jazz trio. "That solidified my determination to sing this music."

"Most of my learning experiences have been simply from listening to my favorite singers and great musicians. I continue to listen and try to improve my skills."
And she credits faith. ."God decided to bless me...because I asked. I said I wanted to be a singer." She got her request.

"I've wanted to do this (sing). It's been my passion...all my life.

- Midland Daily News-Steve Griffin

"Jazz is her Game "Marcia Allen is her name and singing's her claim to fame"

Marcia Allen and the Motown sound were born at roughly the same time. One was in Flint, the other in Detroit. I like R&B,...all the old hits, but that isn't what I want to sing. I just don't feel the same when I'm singing them."

...discovered by Lansing jazzman Sandy Izenson.

Allen had to approach this slowly. WE haven't been together that often and haven't had a chance to develop a repertoire." Still, the resulst are impressive. During a recent Michgan Festival performance, Allen displayed a voice worth remembering. - Lansing State Journal/Mike Hughes
